Expandable occlusive plugs and methods of using them are disclosed. The devices generally include a tubular body bearing multiple slits defining leaves, which expand radially outward when the ends of the device are brought toward one another.

Arterial-venous occlusion apparatus

An introducer set for a microwave ablation probe is disclosed. The introducer set includes a cannula that is at least partially transparent to microwave energy, and a stylet sized to be received by the lumen of the cannula. Other examples provide a microwave ablation system including a microwave ablation probe having a radiating portion and a cannula that is at least partially transparent to microwave energy. The radiating portion of the probe aligns with the transparent portion of the cannula when the probe is inserted into the cannula lumen. The technology provides a method including introducing a microwave ablation probe into the lumen of a cannula having a cannula body that is at least partially transparent to microwave energy, aligning the transparent portion of the cannula with the radiating portion of the probe, and causing microwave energy to be emitted from the radiating portion of the probe.

An occlusive medical device system may include a microcatheter, an elongate shaft, an occlusive medical device, wherein a release wire is configured to releasably attach the medical device to the distal end of the shaft at a release mechanism, and an RF generator. In a first electrical state current is not flowing and in a second electrical state current is flowing to the medical device. The shaft is slidable between a first position wherein the medical device is disposed within the microcatheter, a second position wherein at least a portion of the medical device is disposed outside of the microcatheter and the release mechanism is disposed within the microcatheter, and a third position wherein the release mechanism is disposed outside of the microcatheter. The medical device system is configured to be in the second electrical state when the elongate shaft is in the second position.

Detachable RF energized occlusive device

The disclosure pertains to an intravascular catheter for nerve modulation, comprising an elongate member having a proximal end and a distal end, a balloon having a lumen and a balloon wall, the balloon wall comprising RF permeable sections and non-electrically conductive sections, an electrode disposed within the balloon and extending distally to the furthest distal RF permeable section. The RF permeable sections may comprise a plurality of RF permeable windows, each window having a greater circumferential dimension than an axial dimension. The intravascular system is suited for modulation of renal nerves.

A device for occluding a target body lumen, comprises a wire structure defining a wire structure lumen extending therethrough and movable between a reduced diameter insertion configuration and an expanded diameter deployed configuration and a basket structure extending across the wire structure lumen and including therein a cell growth promoting agent to promote cell growth across the wire structure lumen to occlude the target body lumen.

A system for delivering therapeutic agent to a target location in a body in accordance with one embodiment is provided comprising a plurality of magnetic particles, each magnetic particle carrying a therapeutic agent, and a magnetic device for attracting the magnetic particles to a target location. The magnetic particles may be delivered by a catheter into a blood vessel upstream from the target location so that they travel toward the target location. A method for delivering therapeutic agent to a target location in a body in accordance with another embodiment comprises providing a plurality of magnetic particles, each magnetic particle carrying a therapeutic agent, placing a magnetic device in a position to attract the magnetic particles to a target location, and allowing the magnetic particles to infuse the target location by the attraction of the magnetic particles to the magnetic device. The therapeutic agent may comprises a therapeutic agent for preventing or treating reperfusion injury, and the step of providing the plurality of magnetic particles may comprise delivering the plurality of magnetic particles through a blood vessel.

In one embodiment, the present disclosure provides a biodegradable, self-powered medical device for preventing or reducing reperfusion injury, comprising a galvanic cell, the galvanic cell comprising: a first biodegradable electrode member; and a second biodegradable electrode member comprising a biodegradable conductive polymer and an electrode-releasable therapeutic agent, wherein the galvanic cell generates an electric force sufficient to cause the electrode-releasable therapeutic agent to be released from the biodegradable conductive polymer and elute to a target location. Implantable self-powered biodegradable medical device to treat or prevent reperfusion injury

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for electrically conductive pathways in medical devices. One embodiment of a medical device can include an elongate polymeric body having a proximal end and a distal end. Discrete particles of an electrically conductive material in the elongate polymeric body can form an electrically conductive pathway that extends at least partially between the proximal end and the distal end of the elongate polymeric body.

An activation circuit for selectively providing an electrical current to one or more electroactive polymers (EAPs) in a medical device is disclosed. The activation circuit may include a sensor for sensing a measure related to a parameter of an elongated member and/or a balloon of the medical device. The electrical current may be provided to the one or more EAPs according to the sensed parameter of the elongated member and/or the balloon of the medical device. In some cases, the activation circuit may include a comparator for comparing the sensed measure to a threshold to determine when the electrical current is applied to the EAPs. The parameter may be a pressure, a fluid flow, a temperature, and/or other suitable parameter.

Methods, apparatus, and systems for occluding a multiplicity of parallel membranes, such as found in a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Methods, apparatus, and systems include the use of a positioning device that can be seated on the limbus of the septum secundum (SS). The positioning device includes a piercing member that can pierce the SS and septum primum (SP). The positioning device also includes a fastening member that can engage the SS and SP to fasten the tissues and occlude a PFO.

Defect occlusion apparatus, system, and method

A catheter for placement of an in situ implant is provided. This catheter may include a first elongate shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, a second elongate shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, a first sharpened distal tip disposed at the distal end of the first shaft and a second sharpened distal tip disposed at the distal end of the second shaft. A catheter for providing cool fluid to the tissue region is also provided.
