An inverter system is configured to mitigate oscillation of a rotary system that drives a generator or electric machine. A torque damping module is configured to receive a commanded torque or an observed torque and to generate a commanded compensating torque to dampen any mechanical oscillation or resonance of the rotary system based on the observed rotational speed of the generator. The torque damping module further comprises a digital filter of order greater than one, a gain adjuster and a limiter.

System and method for damping of mechanical oscillaton of a rotor of an electric machine in a vehicle

An inverter system for mitigating oscillation of an electric motor that drives a load comprises a torque command generation module for receiving a commanded torque from an operator of a vehicle. A torque damping module is configured to receive the commanded torque and generating a commanded compensating torque to dampen any mechanical oscillation or resonance of the electric motor based on the observed rotational speed of the motor. The torque damping module further comprises a digital filter of order greater than one, a gain adjuster and a limiter.

An improved power system architecture for a hybrid electric vehicle includes a power control unit including a motor inverter, a generator inverter, and a DC-to-DC converter, and vehicle power management (VPM) circuitry directly connected to each of the motor inverter, generator inverter, and DC-to-DC converter. In this arrangement, communication timing is greatly reduced, thereby allowing for feedforward control of the motor inverter, generator inverter, and DC-to-DC converter. The feedforward control enables the VPM circuitry to predict current influx or draw by a motor and determine the corresponding currents to provide to or from the generator and battery prior to or simultaneously with the actual current influx or draw by the motor. This improves vehicle dynamics and responsiveness, as well as enables complete recapture of braking currents and eliminates the need for a brake chopper resistor, thereby improving overall vehicle efficiency.

Power system architecture for hybrid electric vehicle

A first voltage sensor measures a primary voltage between a first terminal of a tested device and electrical ground when a first switch and a second switch are in various on states or off states. In a test state either the first switch or the second switch is in an on state and in reference state both the first switch and the second switch are in on states. An observed leakage resistance is estimated based on the measured primary and secondary voltages of the test state. A reference leakage resistance is based on the measured primary and secondary voltages of the reference state. A test circuit has failed if the observed leakage resistance differs from the reference leakage resistance by more than a threshold amount.

Voltage sensor-less position detection in an active front end

A controller may include a memory having computer-readable instructions stored therein; and a processor configured to execute the computer-readable instructions to generate Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signals to control power switches of an Active Front End (AFE) inverter based on at least a synthesized grid voltage vector angle at a terminal of an alternating current (AC) grid without using physical voltage sensors at the terminal of the AC grid, and control the AFE inverter to supply power to a load based on the PWM signals.

A voltage difference is determined between the observed voltage and a reference direct current bus voltage. A quadrature-axis (q-axis) voltage command is outputted based on a current difference derived from the voltage difference. A commanded direct-axis (d-axis) voltage is determined based on a measured d-axis current and a determined d-axis reference current derived from a mathematical relationship between d-axis residual voltage, the observed voltage and the commanded q-axis voltage, where residual voltage is proportional to a function of the observed voltage and the commanded q-axis voltage. An inverse Parks transformation module or a data processor provides one or more phase voltage command based on inverse Parks transform of the commanded voltages.

System and method for an inverter for self-excitation of an induction machine

A capacitor is connected between the direct current voltage terminals. Switched terminals of a first switch and a second switch are coupled in series, between the direct current voltage terminals. An electric machine or generator has one or more windings and a first phase output terminal associated with the switched terminals. A first set of blocking diodes are cascaded in series and second set of blocking diodes are cascaded in series. A first voltage supply provides a first output voltage level and a second output level switchable to the first control terminal, where the first output level is distinct from the second output level. A second voltage supply provides the first output voltage level and the second output level switchable to the second control terminal.

At least one example embodiment discloses a method of generating an output variable voltage. The method includes obtaining a selected mode of operation, the selected mode of operation being one of an voltage control mode and a frequency mode, determining an input voltage command based on the selected mode of operation, determining an input frequency command based on the selected mode of operation, adjusting at least one of the input frequency command and the input voltage command based on the selected mode of operation, generating a pulse width modulation reference based on the adjusted at least one of the input frequency command and the input voltage command and generating the output variable voltage based on the pulse width modulation reference.

A system and method for controlling an alternating current (AC) motor using a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) to read the current and position measurements in an the AC motor, perform digital filtering of the position and current data, provide very precise synchronization of the measured phase current and position data, and output the data to a phase converter for control of the AC motor.

A method calibrates a current sensing instant to latch a current value from a set of current signals. A current command including a magnitude at a Gamma angle is provided to control a motor when the motor is operating in a motoring mode at a shaft speed. A matching current command including a same magnitude at a same Gamma angle is provided to control the motor when the motor is operating in a braking mode at a same shaft speed. A first actual averaging rms current magnitude of three phase currents of the motor is monitored when the motor is controlled by the current command and operating in the motoring mode. A second actual averaging rms current magnitude of the three phase currents of the motor is monitored when the motor is controlled by the matching current command and operating in the braking mode. A current sensing instant is adjusted until an observed first actual averaging rms current magnitude in the motoring mode equals an observed second actual averaging rms current magnitude in the braking mode.

System for calibrating an electrical control system

An inverter comprises output switches for generating motor phase currents for application to an electrical motor based on a commanded torque. A current sensor is arranged for detecting motor phase currents applied to the electrical motor by an inverter. A voltage sensor is configured for measuring voltages applied to the electrical motor by the inverter. An output port is capable of outputting output signals of the detected motor phase currents and measured voltages for processing by a vehicle controller. The output signals are suitable for input to a vehicle controller for determining whether or not to generate an override control signal. An input port is configured for receiving the override control signal from the vehicle controller. The input port is coupled to an override input module for switching off a supply of electrical energy to the electric motor.
