A blade tensioner of a blade tensioner system for a chain that drivingly connects a drive shaft to a driving shaft in an engine, that improves the chain-damping efficiency in a blade tensioner applied to the chain within an engine, prevents the sideways tilt of the blade tensioner during operation, in a blade tensioner applied to the chain in an engine, and provides a blade tensioner with a functionality that allows it to transversely guide a chain along the chain sliding face in a blade shoe, while maintaining the flexural deformability (i.e., the flexibility) of the blade shoe.

Blade tensioner and system for a chain

A tensioner device for an engine comprises a support member , a blade shoe coming into sliding contact with a timing chain having a base end section held by a cylinder block and a tip end section supported by the support member , and a leaf spring held by the blade shoe for pressing the blade shoe against the timing chain elastically. The support member is formed integrally with the cylinder block . The tip end section comes into sliding contact with a guide surface formed on the support member to be supported.

Tensioner device

A blade-type tensioner for chain drives which is suitable for use as a tensioner on the timing chain of a motor vehicle engine. The present invention is a chain tensioner particularly suited for use in confined spaces having a blade spring element mechanically interlocked with a plastic shoe. The shoe may be of rigid filled nylon and engages the chain to be tensioned. The spring element is interlocked to the plastic shoe by having ends inserted into grooves formed in the opposite ends of the shoe. The shoe is rotatably fixed to a base by way of a pin. The groove at the fixed end of the shoe extends towards the tip of the fixed end of the shoe past the pin attachment point. The groove at the free end of the shoe extends toward the tip of the free end of the shoe past the point at which the free end of the shoe bears upon a sliding surface formed on the base.

Blade chain tensioner

A tensioner for a camshaft driving chain (a plunger device,shown in the first embodiment of the invention) and a hydraulic control valve,are disposed close to each other. An oil passage,for supplying an oil pressure to the tensioner is caused to branch off from a downstream side of an oil filter,provided at an inlet port,of the hydraulic control valve. With this construction, the arrangement of the oil passage can be simplified, and therefore not only can man hours required for forming the oil passage be reduced, but also the number of components required can also be reduced by commonizing the oil filter. Accordingly, it is possible to provide an improved assembling arrangement for a tensioner and a hydraulic control valve in an internal combustion engine without involving an increase in production costs.

The interior of a chain case,accommodating therein a chain-sprocket mechanism (a sprocket,and a silent chain,)provided for rotating a crankshaft,and camshafts,in an interlocking fashion and a tensioner shoe,for applying a predetermined tension to a slack side of a chain or a guide shoe,for preventing the run-out of the chain on a stretched side thereof is partitioned by providing a rib,so as to protrude from at least either of an end face of an engine E and an inner surface of a chain cover,joined to the end face with distal end edges of the ribs being directed toward sides,of the tensioner shoe or the guide shoe that are perpendicular to the crankshaft. According to this construction, since the rib provided so as to protrude from the cylinder block or the chain cover cooperates with the tensioner shoe or the guide shoe so as to form a separator, an oil passage having a sufficient cross-sectional area can be defined without control from the chain line and necessity of enlargement of the engine.

A tensioner for an endless transmitting member is provided to reliably prevent the loosening of an endless chain, while preventing the occurrence of an incorrect meshing of the endless chain with sprockets. A plunger holder is biased in an advancing direction by the action of a first spring supported in a housing, and a plunger, carried in the plunger holder, is biased in an advancing direction by the action of a second spring having a spring constant larger than that of the first spring. Only the movement of the plunger holder in the advancing direction is permitted by a ratchet mechanism mounted between the plunger holder and the housing. During operation of the engine, the advancing movement of the plunger holder is inhibited by the hydraulic pressure transmitted to a hydraulic pressure chamber, and the plunger is advanced and retracted in accordance with a variation in tension of the endless chain. When the engine is stopped, the ratchet mechanism is operated in accordance with the elongation of the endless chain due to wearing to advance the plunger holder one pitch at a time along with the plunger.

Tensioner for an endless transmitting member

A silent chain having multiple links each having a pair of teeth and apertures, which are connected by connecting pins inserted into the apertures. The links have an sheared link bearing surface which further reduces the wear of the sprocket tooth surface and further prevents defective bending of the silent chain. The bearing surface of the link tooth has a shear surface which may be formed by shaving or fine-blanking. The shear surface length may be at least approximately 70% or at least approximately 90% of the link thickness.

An engine has two balancer shafts supported on two bearing bushings which are made of the same material and mounted to a balancer holder. Lubricating oil passages for supplying oil to the bearing bushings are defined offset upwards from the centers O of the bearing bushings and by a distance .delta.. Each of the bearing bushings has two oil bores having a center angle .theta. other than 180.degree.. The two oil bores in the bearing bushing of one balancer shaft communicate with the lubricating oil passage, and one of the oil bores in the bearing bushing of another balancer shaft communicates with the lubricating oil passage, while the other oil bore of that another balancer shaft is closed to keep out of the lubricating oil passage. Thus, downstream ends of the lubricating oil passages for supplying the oil to the bearing bushings of the plurality of rotary shafts can be closed without use of a special closing member such as a blind plug.

Rotary shaft lubricating structure

An engine having a lower block made of an aluminum-based material and having a bearing cap mounted therein in a cast-in manner abutting against front and rear sidewalls of a cylinder block of the engine and coupled to the cylinder block by a bolt, and a pump body is coupled to a lower surface of the lower block by bolts. The pump body also serves as a balancer shaft supporting member, and a journal portion of a balancer shaft is supported on the balancer shaft supporting member. Thus, the rigidity of supporting of the balancer shaft on the balancer shaft supporting member can be enhanced without an increase in size of the balancer shaft supporting member of the engine.
