An amorphous alloy which has a composition represented by the general formula (Fe.sub.1-a Co.sub.a).sub.1-x-y-z P.sub.x W.sub.y M.sub.z (where 0.9.ltoreq.a, 0.04.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.16, 0.005.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.0.05, 0.ltoreq.z.ltoreq.0.2, and M is one or more transition elements other than Fe, Co, and W. In a method for producing the amorphous alloy comprising at least Fe, Co, P and W by electrodeposition, the electrodeposition is performed in an acidic electrolyte bath which employs phosphorous acid and/or a phosphite as the P source and sodium tungstate as the W source, or in an acidic electrolyte bath which employs sodium phosphotungstate as the P and W source. The amorphous alloy which contains phosphorous as the metalloid element exhibits little reduction in saturation magnetization, and the crystallization temperature may be increased to above 450.degree. C.

Amorphous alloy and method for its production

A thin amorphous alloy of cobalt, iron and phosphorus having good workability and the ability to be used as a soft magnetic material is formed by electrolytic deposition. The electrolytic bath has a pH of 1.0 to 2.2 and contains at least a divalent cobalt ion, a divalent iron ion, and phosphorous acid and/or a phosphite. The amorphous alloy contains at least 69 atomic percent cobalt, 2 to 30 atomic percent phosphorus and the iron/(cobalt+iron) atomic ratio is from 0.001 to 0.1. The alloy may be deposited on a working electrode having a chrome-plated surface with a center line average roughness of less than 1 .mu.m and may be peeled from the electrode to obtain a tape-shaped or foil-shaped product.

Disclosed is a process for preparing a membranous gas separator comprising (a) a porous substrate having an average pore diameter of not greater than 100 .ANG. and (b) a .pi.-electron conjugated conducting polymer retained within at least a part of the pores of the porous substrate in such a way that the pores are not blocked, characterized in that retaining the .pi.-electron conjugated conducting polymer within the pore is carried out by a chemical oxidative polymerization.

Process for preparing a membranous gas separator

A regenerated cellulose hollow fiber exhibiting a good cellulose II crystalline structure and an exchanged wet strength/wet elongation ratio is prepared by a process wherein: a dope comprised of cellulose ester in a non-volatile organic solvent is extruded through a circular slit defined between inner and outer tubes of a spinning nozzle having a double tube structure, while a core liquid is forced through the inner tube of said nozzle; the hollow fibrous extrudate is coagulated in a coagulating bath; the coagulated hollow fibrous extrudate is drawn 1.05 to 2.00 times its original length; and then, the drawn hollow fiber still containing a core liquid in the hollow is treated with an aqueous caustic alkali solution containing at least 0.5% by weight of a water soluble metal salt, thereby hydrolyzing the cellulose ester into cellulose.

Process for manufacturing regenerated cellulose hollow fiber

A process which comprises allowing a liquid to contact with the inside of a microporous hollow fiber and a fluid to contact with the outside, thereby allowing the gaseous components contained in both fluids to transfer between said liquid and said fluid. For use in the process, the inner diameter of the hollow fiber should be 50 to 5,000.mu. and the wall membrane should have an average micropore diameter of 0.01 to 0.5.mu., a porosity of 10 vol.-% or more, a micropore surface area of 5 m.sup.2 /g or more, and an oxygen permeability of 10.sup.-6 cm.sup.3 (STP).multidot.cm/cm.sup.2 .multidot.sec.multidot.cmHg or more. In cases where the liquid is water or a liquid substance with aqueous medium, the process can be used effectively in artificial lung units or the like by using a hollow fiber of a polyolefin or a fluorinated polyolefin.

There are disclosed porous polypropylene hollow filaments which have a surrounding wall portion of less than 60 .mu., preferably 40 .mu. in thickness which contains many fine holes communicating with each other, distribution curve of radius of said fine holes having at least one maximum points within the range of 200-1200 A. Dry semipermeable membranes of polyacrylonitrile or copolymers containing more than 65 wt. % of acrylonitrile are prepared by dissolving the polymer in a solvent in a solids concentration of 15-30% by weight; uniformly coating the solution onto a surface in a desired shape under an atmosphere whose relative humidity is 60-85% and dipping said coated surface into a non-solvent medium so as to remove the solvent which forms the membrane; heat-treating the membrane under moist conditions at 60.degree.-90.degree. C; and drying the membrane at a temperature less than the temperature of the heat treatment under conditions such that the coefficient of contraction is less than 1%, whereby a dried semi-permeable membrane having an open-celled structure with a pore size of a diameter less than 0.5 .mu. and a porosity of 0.40-0.7 is obtained.
