The present invention simultaneously detects a location of an electric conductor and pressure that is applied by the electric conductor. A touch panel () includes a plurality of sensing electrodes () that extend in a first direction for detecting a touch location based on an electrostatic capacitance; and pressure detecting electrodes () each of which extends in the first direction and is provided between adjacent two of the plurality of sensing electrodes (). Each of the pressure detecting electrodes () has a width smaller than that of each of the sensing electrodes () and has resistance that changes in response to applied pressure.

A liquid crystal display device includes an array board, a CF board, detection electrodes, drive electrodes, and position detection lines. The array board includes TFTs in a display area and a display circuit that includes at least monolithic circuits in a non-display area. The CF board is opposed to the array board with a gap. The detection electrodes are arranged on an outer surface of the CF board in the display area to extend along the first direction. The drive electrodes are arranged on an inner surface of the CF board in the display area to extend along the second direction. The position detection lines are arranged on the inner surface of the CF board in the non-display area for transmitting signals to the drive electrodes. A frame region includes a wiring substrate that sandwiches the gate lines. A plurality of light-shielding films etc. are formed on a surface of a first insulating film. Then, a dummy pattern is formed on a surface of a second insulating film between adjoining ones of the light-shielding films etc., so that a height of the dummy pattern is equal to that of the second insulating film on the light-shielding films etc., as measured from the surface of the first insulating film. Thereafter, a third insulating film covering the dummy pattern and having a flat surface is formed over the surface of the second insulating film. Subsequently, a base layer is bonded to a support substrate so that the flat surface of the third insulating film faces the support substrate. A semiconductor device is manufactured in this manner.

A transistor model for a simulator simulates a resistance between a source region and a drain region with a model equation which has terms representing resistance values corresponding respectively to areas of mutually different impurity concentrations below a gate section in simulating characteristics of a transistor. At least two of the terms each having a threshold parameter indicating a voltage at which a semiconductor element composed of the associated region and regions adjacent to that region changes from an ON state to an OFF state. The threshold parameters of the terms being specified independently from each other. Thus, the characteristics of a transistor having a set of areas of mutually different impurity concentrations below a gate section, inclusive of subthreshold regions which are difficult to evaluate through actual measurement, can be simulated to high accuracy while preserving a good fit with a capacitance model.
