The methods, systems, and apparatuses described in this disclosure enable the identification of an alarm condition and the termination of a connection between an MTA and one or more telephony devices. An alarm condition can be identified at an MTA through the monitoring of feedback received from an alarm interface, and the MTA can respond to the identification of the alarm condition by terminating a connection to a telephony device for which communications are not routed through a corresponding alarm interface. An interface between the MTA and alarm interface may route communications to and from a telephony network through a first pair of wires and may receive feedback from the alarm interface through a second pair of wires.

Alarm system monitor sensor for multimedia terminal adapter

A voltage controller increases a DC input voltage in response to a ring instruction received from a processor in a control signal. The increased voltage is converted to an AC ring signal that causes a telephone to ring. The ring signal voltage is generated at a battery high node ('V') and may be routed to a SLIC before being sent to an on-hook telephone. The voltage at Vis kept low during off-hook and other periods when a ring instruction is not present. Thus, voltages internal to an indoor device that houses the controller are kept below a predetermined safe threshold, thereby allowing the periods of high voltage to be deemed as transient. Accordingly, if the device is unearthed, or not grounded to the earth, the device may nevertheless obtain listing by a certifying and testing organization without being subjected to abnormal testing and possible failure thereof.

Method and system for increasing subscriber line interface circuit voltage during ringing

Current to a relay causes a telephone to be connected to a SLIC. Following LOOP, a sleep switch opens to interrupt current to the power supply converter after a first predetermined period expires. If the telephone is on-hook, loss of current to the relay causes disconnection from the SLIC, but causes connection to a battery. Current sensed from the battery through an off-hook hook switch generates a current signal. The current signal closes a current switch, which is in parallel with the open sleep switch, thereby providing a current path to the converter. The sleep switch then makes and then the current switch breaks. After awakening, a ring-back signal informs a user that telephony service has been restored and a message may indicate that telephony service is being sought. When the telephone is placed back on-hook, counting of a second predetermined period starts, after which the sleep switch opens again.

Method and system for extending backup battery life in primary line customer premises-equipment

A circuit for protecting a plurality of tip/ring SLIC cards during over current or over voltage conditions. A diode pair corresponding to each tip/ring pair provides positive voltage over voltage protection in a negative powering scheme. Two thyristors provide negative over voltage protection. Tip conductors of half of the SLICs connect to the cathode of one of the thyristors. The ring conductors corresponding to each of these tips connects to the cathode of the other, or second, thyristor. The remaining tips are connected to the cathode of the second thyristor. The rings corresponding to these remaining tips connect to the cathode of the first thyristor. This alternating connection of tips and rings provides twice the current capacity of a single thyristor, while cutting in half the potential holding current through either of the thyristors, thus increasing the likelihood of automatic return to normal operation following cessation of negative over voltage.

Overcurrent and overvoltage protection method and architecture for a tip and ring subscriber line interface circuit

A vertically elongated mount is provided and supported from a tractor vehicle of the cab over engine type closely behind and spaced slightly inwardly of the front wheel of the tractor on the driver's side thereof. An elongated support arm is provided and has a first end portion pivotally supported from the lower end portion of the mount for angular displacement of the arm about a horizontal axis extending transversely of the arm and in a front to rear direction relative to the tractor. The arm is swingable between a lowered generally horizontally position with the second end portion of the arm projecting horizontally outwardly from the mount behind and slightly outwardly of the outer side of the wheel and a raised position with the second end portion of the arm projecting upwardly and outwardly from the mount to a position generally horizontally aligned with the upper periphery of the wheel and recessed slightly inwardly of the outer side thereof, and an extendible and retractable fluid cylinder is provided and has one end pivotally attached to the upper end portion of the mount and the other end pivotally anchored to the arm intermediate with the first and second end portions thereof. The cylinder is operative, upon extension and retraction thereof, to swing the arm between its lowered and raised positions.
