A microfluidic dispenser can include a processor to receive a user input via a user interface related to limiting dilution (or a limiting dilution assay) to be performed, and calculate a dispense volume of a fluid for the limiting dilution based on the user input. The microfluidic dispenser can also include a dispense cassette including a fluid reservoir, and a microfluidic dispense head to dispense the fluid via a nozzle in accordance with the calculated dispense volume.

In one example in accordance with the present disclosure, a fluid ejection controller is described. The fluid ejection controller includes a firing board to pass control signals to a fluid ejection device to eject fluid from the fluid ejection device. A mount pivotally holds the firing board between a disengaged position where electrical pins of the firing board are not in contact with electrical pads of the fluid ejection device and an engaged position where the electrical pins are in contact with the electrical pads. The mount includes a slot to receive the fluid ejection device and at least one biasing spring to bias the firing board away from the fluid ejection device during insertion of the fluid ejection device. The fluid ejection controller also includes a handle coupled to a cam shaft to move the firing board between the disengaged position and the engaged position.

A fluid ejection system, in an example, includes at least one nozzle of at least one die from which a fluid is ejected and at least one nanowell at which the at least one nozzle ejects an amount of fluid. A method of dispensing a fluid, in an example, includes addressing at least one nanowell with at least one nozzle of at least one die, and depositing a fluid in the nanowell with the at least one nozzle.

A digital dispense apparatus includes at least one fluid dispense device, at least one reservoir fluidically connected to the at least one fluid dispense device, a monolithic carrier structure carrying the at least one fluid dispense device and reservoir, the monolithic carrier forming fluid routing between the reservoir and the fluid dispense device.

A microfluidic device may, in an example, include at least one microfluidic channel, a dielectrophoresis separator to separate a plurality of cells passing within the at least one microfluidic channel, and a thermal resistor to eject at least one cell from the microfluidic device. A cassette may, in an example, include a die coupled to a substrate of the cassette, the die including at least one microfluidic channel, a dielectrophoresis separator along the microfluidic channel to separate a plurality of cells passing within the microfluidic channel, and an ejection device to eject at least one of the plurality of cells into an assay well.

A digital dispense apparatus comprising a plurality of fluid dispense devices, at least one reservoir connected to the plurality of fluid dispense devices to deliver fluid to the plurality of fluid dispense devices, at least one contact pad array, and a single monolithic carrier structure.

In example implementations, a method is provided. The method may be executed by a processor of a fluid dispensing apparatus. The method includes dispensing a fluid onto a surface from a dispenser during an alignment procedure. The surface is ejected for alignment verification. The surface is then received for re-execution of the alignment procedure after the alignment verification. The dispenser is re-used to dispense fluid onto the surface during re-execution of the alignment procedure.

An apparatus includes a pipette dispenser to control dispensing of a volume to a dispensing location. A tip is operatively coupled to the pipette dispenser. The tip includes an electromechanical print head to dispense the volume from the pipette dispenser to the dispensing location based on a command from the pipette dispenser that indicates an amount of the volume to be dispensed from the print head.

According to an example, a microfluidic apparatus may include a channel, a foyer, in which the foyer is in fluid communication with the channel and in which the channel has a smaller width than the foyer, a sensor to sense a property of a fluid passing through the channel, a nozzle in fluid communication with the foyer, and an actuator positioned in line with the nozzle. The microfluidic apparatus may also include a controller to determine whether the sensed property of the fluid meets a predetermined condition and to perform a predefined action in response to the sensed property of the fluid meeting the predetermined condition.

A microfluidic device may include a microfluidic channel including an electrode placed at opposite ends of the microfluidic channel to create an electrical field within the channel and an ejection device to eject at least one cell porated within the electrical field. A cassette may include a substrate, a die coupled to the substrate, a microfluidic channel defined within the die, the microfluidic channel including a necked portion to receive a cell therein and at least two electrodes each placed at a first and a second end of the microfluidic channel to apply an electric field to the cell above a proration threshold and a cell ejection device to eject the cell from the die.

According to an example, a microfluidic apparatus may include a fluid slot, a foyer in fluid communication with the fluid slot via a channel having a relatively smaller width than the foyer, a sensor to detect a presence of a particle of interest in a fluid passing through the channel, a nozzle in fluid communication with the foyer, and an actuator positioned in line with the nozzle. The microfluidic apparatus may also include a controller to receive information from the sensor, determine, from the received information, whether a particle of interest has passed through the channel, and control the actuator to expel fluid in the foyer through the nozzle based upon the determination.

Optical readers are disclosed in examples herein. An example optical reader including a light source to emit a light beam; and a spot pattern generator to receive the light beam and to generate a two-dimensional spot array from the light beam, the two-dimensional spot array to be directed toward a substrate having nanostructures, the two-dimensional spot array to be sensed to detect a presence or an absence of a substance of interest on the substrate.
