An approach is provided for rendering items in a user interface. The approach may, for instance, include processing a current orientation mode of a device, a detected attitude change of the device, and an attitude change threshold to determine a new orientation mode for the device. In an instance when the attitude change threshold is satisfied, then switching to the new orientation mode and in an instance when the new orientation mode is a landscape orientation mode, then causing to present navigation information in an augmented reality display.

Method and apparatus for rendering items in a user interface

An approach is provided for rendering items in a user interface. The approach may, for instance, include utilizing a current orientation mode to determine one or more current orientation angles of a device prior to an attitude change, determining whether the attitude change from the determined one or more current orientation angles satisfies an attitude change threshold to switch to another orientation mode, wherein the another orientation mode is one of a landscape, portrait or flat orientation mode, and in an instance in which the determined attitude change satisfies the attitude change threshold, causing, at least in part, a rendering of one or more representations of one or more items in a user interface of the device based on the another orientation mode.

An approach is provided for grouping and de-overlapping items in a user interface. A display manager determines one or more items for rendering in a user interface. The display manager then causes, at least in part, a determination of one or more rendering locations for one or more representations of the one or more items based, at least in part, on location information associated with the one or more items. The display manager further causes, at least in part, a grouping, a de-overlapping, or a combination thereof of the one or more representations based, at least in part, on an overlapping of the one or more rendering locations. The display manager also causes, at least in part, a rendering of the one or more representations in the user interface based, at least in part, on the grouping, the de-overlapping, or a combination thereof.

Method and apparatus for grouping and de-overlapping items in a user interface

An approach is provided for rendering items in a user interface. The approach may, for instance, include: a pre-fetching and a caching of item information associated with one or more items for one or more determined categories based on location information associated with the device; a processing of a detected attitude change associated with the device and of an attitude change threshold to determine an intended orientation mode for the device; a modification of one or more representations, of one or more items, that are within a region, of a user interface, associated with a user interface object; a grouping, a de-overlapping, or a combination thereof of the one or more representations based on an overlapping of one or more rendering locations, of the one or more representations, in a three-dimensional model space.

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to provide an efficient, aesthetically pleasing display of points of interest in an AR interface that maximizes usability and display efficiency. In this regard, the method, apparatus and computer program product may utilize a mobile terminal to perform pre-processing of interface elements to reduce display clutter and increase efficiency of display processing. Interface elements may be projected onto a cylindrical surface to locate the interface elements relative to the mobile terminal. Three dimensional coordinates for the interface elements may be derived from the cylindrical projection. A perspective grid may provide a user of the device with a frame of reference to interact with the display and interface elements displayed thereon. Display elements may further conform to input operations performed by a user to interact with the AR interface.

Method and apparatus for displaying interface elements

A method, apparatus and computer program product are therefore provided in order to provide an efficient, aesthetically pleasing display of points of interest in an AR interface that maximizes usability and display efficiency. In this regard, the method, apparatus and computer program product may utilize a mobile terminal to perform pre-processing of interface elements to reduce display clutter and increase efficiency of display processing. Interface elements may be projected onto a cylindrical surface to locate the interface elements relative to the mobile terminal. Interface elements may be analyzed in the projection to identify interface elements that are proximate to one another. Data indicating that particular interface elements are proximate to one another may be stored in a data structure for reference prior to displaying of the interface elements in an AR interface.

Method and apparatus for detecting proximate interface elements

The present invention provides an apparatus to minimize lateral tipping of refuse containers by winds, animals and the like. A securement apparatus for wheel-based or conventional refuse containers is described. The invented apparatus includes an elongate stake having a hooked bracket and a tethering means which releasably captures a handle and a lid respectively of a refuse container. A tapered end and support surface penetration stop member on the elongate stake facilitate partial, vertical penetration of a support surface by the stake. When the stake is vertically penetrating the support surface, the hooked bracket may be adjusted to secure handles of various size, shape, and capacity refuse containers.

Container securement apparatus

A theft prevention device, particularly useful for discouraging theft of hood ornaments and other articles on the exteriors of automobiles, includes a bag or pouch of fabric material. The bag is sized to fit over the article to be protected, and may have a drawstring at its neck to enable it to tightly engage the article. In one embodiment an oily liquid material is soaked into the bag, such that anyone seeking to tamper with the protected article will touch the bag and make contact with the liquid material. The liquid material contains a strong skin irritant which does not injure the skin but which causes a burning sensation on the hands of the attempted thief. On the outside of the bag there may be printed a warning to discourage thieves from even attempting theft of the bag's contents. In another embodiment the bag includes a liquid reservoir which squirts a liquid at an intended thief when the bag is grabbed by the thief. The liquid in the reservoir may be a fragrance oil with a very obnoxious and lasting odor.
