A batteryless sensor includes either a micro miniature generator/gear train or a piezoelectric crystal to convert a movement of a door or window to an ersatz V.sub.cc transient power supply to radiate a coded RF signal to a receiver, a distance away. The receiver may monitor a multiplicity of sensors to identify a source of an intrusion.

Batteryless sensor used in security applications

A batteryless sensor includes a small and concealed permanent magnet motor which operates as a generator to convert rotational or translational energy to an ersatz Vcc transient power supply via a mechanical arrangement to radiate a coded VHF oscillator signal to a repeater or central processing unit located as far as one mile from the sensor. The receiver is able to monitor a multiplicity of sensor units over a given time period.

A system for transmitting and receiving very wide instantaneous bandwidth signals. Synchronized short pulse generators are positioned at the feed location of each element of a linear array of short capped monopole antennas to sequentially excite the antenna elements which are spaced in accordance with the sequential interval to provide a beam in the desired direction and space. Reflections of the radiated short pulses are received by a feed monopole backed by a reflecting monopole and coupled to a short pulse receiver through a duplexing switch.

Antennas for wide bandwidth signals

A baseband receiver with a range gate interval in the order of nanoseconds. A tunnel diode, set to the low level state, is coupled across the output terminals of a bridge that is balanced in the absence of a received signal, during the range gate interval. Signals received by an antenna are coupled to a tunnel diode in an arm of the bridge causing it to change from its low level state to its high level state thereby unbalancing the bridge and establishing a voltage at the output terminals of the bridge that fires the tunnel diode coupled thereacross.

Narrow range gate baseband receiver

A presettable counter and a substantially identical counter both slaved to a crystal-controlled clock oscillator form a programmable slip counter for providing transition signals with a time interval therebetween in accordance with a coarse delay signal preset into the presettable counter. A programmable logic delay line responsive to a fine delay signal delays one of the transitions so as to impart a precise delay interval between the delayed transition signal and the other transition signal.

High resolution and high accuracy time interval generator

An apparatus and method for measuring the height of a liquid above a reference level in which short pulses of subnanosecond duration are coupled to a dual-mode transmission line immersed in a liquid to propagate thereon in a plurality of modes. A surface wave propagating on the outer conductor is reflected from the surface of the liquid, and coaxial-mode propagating within the transmission line is reflected from the reference level. These reflected pulses propagate back along the transmission line, coupled to a receiver for detection, the detected pulses processed to determine the liquid height above a reference level.

Apparatus and method of measuring the level of a liquid

A base band transmitter cooperates with dual base band receiver antennas, a single receiver channel, and a tapped delay correlator device for the prevention of vehicular collisions, the configuration effectively narrowing the normally wide base band antenna pattern to span a single predetermined forward traffic lane.

Interferometric protective system for vehicles

The operating characteristics of deep well pumping equipment in a geothermal well power-generation system are observed by cooperating sensor and communication elements permanently associated with the geothermal well equipment itself. Bridge circuit sensors detect well water temperature and water pressure below and above the pump, while a further sensor detects pump rotational speed. The data is transmitted by a multiplexing acoustic communication link coupled to receiver and display means located at the earth's surface. An electrical generator driven at the pump speed serves as the rotational speed pick off and additionally supplies multiplexing and signal processor power for use at the down-well site. The signal processor includes novel diode circuits in each bridge sensor channel for monitoring the operation of the individual sensors and their common power source, thereby providing a surface display of the parameter being measured by a particular sensor channel and additionally providing a calibrating display of the operating status of that channel.

Geothermal well pump performance sensing system and monitor therefor

A range measurement system wherein range accuracies of fractions of a meter may be obtained. Nanosecond pulses, one triggered by the transmitter trigger with an appropriate delay and the other triggered by a received echo pulse, are launched from opposite ends of a transmission line. The location on the transmission line at which the two short pulses coalesce and the delay time of the transmitter triggered short pulse establish the range to the echoing object to an accuracy determined by the short pulse, pulse width.

Range readout apparatus

A vehicle safety apparatus includes a base band pulse transmitter-receiver system for the detection of an impending collision immediately prior to the contact of the vehicle with another object for the actuation of restraining or other safety devices to protect the occupants of the vehicle when the crash event actually occurs. A semiconductor base band transmitter and receiver system is synchronously operated by a master clock, providing precise operation of the receiver gain control, sensitivity time control, and other receiver functions, in a low-cost, rugged, long-lived object detection system.
