A valve locking system for safely and economically locking out control valves. The valve locking system includes a valve locking assembly for preventing manipulation of a valve including a rotating handle. The handle includes at least one aperture extending through the handle. The assembly includes a brace designed for coupling around a neck of the valve such that the brace is prevented from rotating around the neck of the valve. A cable includes a first end loop and a second end loop. The first end loop is coupled to the brace. The second end of the cable is insertable through the aperture in the handle. A locking member for coupling the first end loop to the second end loop such that the cable ties the handle to the brace whereby the handle is prevented from being rotated.

The liquid light tree is a completely new method of constructing and enhancing the beauty in central symbol of the Christmas season. The tree consists of a skeleton of colorful, wavy, treelike strands (36) of material which are curved to match the outline of a traditional Christmas tree. These strands (36) are pivoted around a center pole (30) to form the image of a hollow, transparent tree. The effect of blinking lights is produced by pumping a liquid down the skeleton of wavy strands (36). The quick beads of fluid dart in and out creating a sparkling visual effect. The flowing fluid is given additional effect in a dark setting much like a traditional tree. The tree has lights at the top and bottom of the tree which enhances the fluid flow. The beads of fluid reflect the light and give the impression that each bead is a light in itself moving quickly down the tree replaced again and again by other beads of liquid light.

Aqueous solutions of water-soluble cationic amine polymers which are stable against viscosity changes are prepared by adding small amounts of amine compounds to the solutions and adjusting the pH of the solutions to a value in the range of about 10.5 to 12.5.

Polymerization method utilizing a three-phase system: water-in-oil-in-water or oil-in-water-in-oil comprising the steps (a) adding the monomer material to be polymerized into the innermost water or oil phase; (b) adding, with mechanical agitation, the product of Step a to the middle oil or water phase, said phase containing appropriate surfactant, whereby an emulsion is formed; (c) adding, with mechanical agitation, the emulsion product of Step b to the outermost water or oil phase, said phase containing appropriate surfactant, wherein polymerization proceeds in the innermost water or oil phase until complete.

Electroductive article comprising a coating composition of copolymers containing from 70 percent to 85 percent by weight diallyldimethylammonium chloride and at least 15 percent but less than 30 percent by weight N-methylolacrylamide and optional comonomers is disclosed. These electroconductive polymers are coated onto a substrate and become water-insensitive thereafter.

Acids, thickened with branched emulsion or suspension polymers of diallyldimethylammonium chloride are useful as oil well drilling and fracturing fluids for stimulating well production and in other applications, such as thickeners for cosmetics, paints, adhesives, textiles and printing inks.

Polymers having a tertiary amide group, particularly homopolymers and copolymers of vinylpyrrolidone, are modified by treatment with reactive acid chlorides, the amide functions being converted into amide chlorides. These modified polymers are reactive intermediates and may be used to obtain a variety of new polymeric substances.

Insoluble cross-linked homopolymers of vinylpyrrolidone or copolymers of vinylpyrrolidone are prepared by reaction of the soluble homopolymer or copolymer with certain acid chlorides at a temperature between 75.degree. C. and about 140.degree. C., to obtain a precipitate. Alternately, the insoluble product may be prepared by heating a partial amide chloride of a homopolymer or copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone.

Copolymers useful in making electroconductive paper which impart improved solvent holdout properties to the electroconductive paper, comprising monomer units of quaternary diallyldialkylammonium and a monomer of the formula: --CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(R.sub.1)--C(O)--O--R.sub.2, where R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl; R.sub.2 is an alkyl group of 2 to 12 carbon atoms, that number being designated n, substituted with fluorine atoms in number equal to from n to 2n; and for the quaternary diallyldialkylammonium monomer, the alkyl groups are independently selected from alkyl groups of one to 18 carbon atoms, and the counterion is an anion.

Polymers with improved solvent holdout in electroconductive paper

Copolymers of a cationic electroconductive monomer and a crosslinkable monomer. These polymers are electroconductive and become water-insensitive after being applied to a substrate.
