At least a first resilient electrical contact () is carried by the male housing portion () for making an electrical connection with the female electrical receptacle (). The first magnet () and the first resilient electrical contact () are disposed in a parallel configuration along a transverse axis of the male housing portion ().

Disclosed is a printed circuit board configured for a dome-utilizing keypad configuration including at least one padstack having a plurality of dome switch targets and a plurality of target rings capable of accommodating different key dome locations of a dome keypad. Also disclosed is a padstack capable of accommodating different key dome locations. The disclosed padstack has a single dome switch targets input/output line for the plurality of dome switch targets of the padstack. The padstack also includes a single target rings input/output line for the plurality of target rings of the pad stack. In this way the disclosed printed circuit board includes a single circuit arrangement available for a plurality of different key pad designs.

An antenna apparatus for a radiotelephone (100) comprises a shroud (207), an antenna (209) and releasable latch means (231, 219, 223, 229). The shroud (207) is movable between a first and a second position. The antenna is an extendable helical coil (209) having a shortened axial length when the shroud is moved to the first position and a lengthened axial length when the shroud is moved to the second position. The extendable helical coil (209) exerts biasing forces on the shroud (207) when the shroud is moved to the second position to urge the shroud (207) towards the first position. The releasable latch means, including a platform (205) having a flexible end portion (231) adapted for cooperative engagement with the shroud (207), latches the shroud (207) at the second position when the shroud (207) is moved to the second position and releases the shroud (207) from the second position, responsive to flexing the flexible end portion (231), permitting the biasing forces to return the shroud (207 ) to the first position.

A telephonic handset housing assembly for a cordless telephone. The housing assembly comprises a carriage and a clip which is releasably engageable with the carriage. Because the clip is releasably engageable with the carriage, when the handset is not to be carried with an object, the clip may be removed so as not to form a portion of the handset housing assembly.

A wedge-shaped receptacle for mounting a noise cancelling microphone transducer (105) and a ringer alert transducer (107) within a housing (101) is disclosed. The receptacle (111) is molded from a flexible material providing efficient assembly of the transducers within two apertures in the receptacle (129 and 133). Gaskets (137 and 145), molded as part of the receptacle, provide an acoustic and weatherproof seal between the receptacle (111) and the housing (101) for each transducer. The two apertures (129 and 133), providing acoustic interface for the ringer alert transducer (107) and the microphone transducer (105), share the same opening (113) in the front face of the housing (101). The aperture (133) for the noise cancelling microphone (105) is also open to a second opening (115) in the bottom face of the housing (101) to cancel background noise. The receptacle includes channels (201 and 202) which allow back pressure release for the ringer alert transducer (107 ). The receptacle (111) also dresses the microphone wires (141) through another aperture (131) to prevent damage during the assembly of the receptacle (111) into the housing (101).

Apparatus for mounting transducers

A mechanism using a convertible mounting apparatus (103 and 105) for installing a communication device in both a horizontal and vertical configuration is described. The position of a wedge shaped platform (103) on the installation interface of the communications device (105) may be changed without separating the wedge shaped platform (103) from the installation interface of the communication device (105). In a vertical installation configuration, an aperture disposed in the installation interface of the communication device (105) further encompassed by the wedge shaped platform (103) provides a volume of space to store excess electrical cord (205) used for the communication device.
