A wideband carrier (e.g., LTE carrier) is shifted up or down in frequency, within an allocated frequency band, by an integer multiple of the channel raster spacing (e.g., 100 KHz). This reduces the size of the guard band on one side of the carrier, and expands the guard band on the other side. A narrowband carrier (e.g., NB-IoT carrier) is then deployed within the expanded guard band, at or near a frequency such that the transmission is orthogonal to the wideband carrier transmissions, such as by using a shared N frequency grid spacing (e.g. at 100 KHz spacing, and using 15 KHz subcarriers). The narrowband carrier thus maintains orthogonality with the wideband carrier, but has 'room' within the expanded guard band to both transmit on a frequency close to the frequency grid spacing, and to boost transmit power (e.g., by 6 dB), while remaining within the spectral mask. The shifted wideband carrier is transparent to wideband UEs, as the frequency shift is an integer multiple of the channel raster spacing.

Non-linear distortions, called glitches, occur in radio receivers when automatic gain control (AGC) is employed for regulating the dynamic range of the received signal. It is proposed to determine (S) the occurrence of a glitch caused by operation of the AGC mechanism, and estimate (S) a representation of how energy of a signal transient associated with the glitch is transferred by digital filter(s) in the receiver. The radio signal is then detected (S) at least partly based on the estimated representation. In this way, the adverse effects of the glitch can be mitigated and detection of the desired signal can be significantly improved. This also means that the link performance will be significantly improved.

In a method for enabling improved quality for noise limited uplink signals in a radio base station in a telecommunication system, said radio base station comprising a plurality of transceiver units, each comprising at least one receiver unit, adaptively allocating (S) available transceiver units to enable parallel processing of an identified noise limited signal on at least two separate receiver units in the radio base station. And, combining (S) the parallel processed noise limited calls to provide a received signal with improved signal to noise ratio.

Method and arrangement for enabling improved receiver quality for noise limited uplink signals

Facile changing and updating of a first module () of a platform () is achieved despite the fact that a parameter required for execution of the first module depends both upon which version of the first module () and which version of a second module () is included in the platform. Reconfiguration of the platform occasioned by the changing and/or updating of the first module is facilitated by having both the first module and a second module maintain respective pre-revision parameter arrays () for the multi-module dependent parameter. The pre-revision parameter arrays comprises sets of parameter candidate values for plural combinations of versions of the first module and versions of the second module. When one of the first module and the second module is to become a revised module by replacement with a new version (e.g., the new version of the revised module), a revised parameter array () is also provided for the revised module. After reconfiguration, one of the parameter candidate values in the third set of parameter candidate values is selected as qualifying as an appropriate parameter value for use in conjunction with the modules of the platform. In an example implementation, one of the first module and the second module can be a hardware module while the other of the first module and the second module is a software module. Moreover, one example environment of implementation is a telecommunications platform, such as (for example) a node of a radio access network (RAN).
