A system and method for creating a trusted workspace on a commercial mobile device using a cryptographic security token having a secure microprocessor, a secure bus connected to said secure microprocessor, a bus isolation microcontroller connected to said secure bus wherein said bus isolation microcontroller comprises firmware for controlling communications through said secure bus to said secure microprocessor, a first NFC antenna connected to said bus isolation microcontroller, and a second NFC antenna connected to said secure microprocessor. The secure microprocessor and said bus isolation microprocessor are powered by energy received through said first NFC antenna and said second NFC antenna. The cryptographic security token receives data from outside said cryptographic security token only through said first NFC antenna. The token or module may further have a bi-state or bi-stable display and a secure memory, each connected to the secure microprocessor by a secure bus.

A method, device, and apparatus provide the ability to predict a portion of a polyphonic audio signal for compression and networking applications. The solution involves a framework of a cascade of long term prediction filters, which by design is tailored to account for all periodic components present in a polyphonic signal. This framework is complemented with a design method to optimize the system parameters. Specialization may include specific techniques for coding and networking scenarios, where the potential of each enhanced prediction is realized to considerably improve the overall system performance for that application. One specific technique provides enhanced inter-frame prediction for the compression of polyphonic audio signals, particularly at low delay. Another specific technique provides improved frame loss concealment capabilities to combat packet loss in audio communications.

Method and apparatus for polyphonic audio signal prediction in coding and networking systems

A method and apparatus provide the ability to code signals in a layered manner for compression and networking applications. The solution involves a relaxed hierarchical structure of layers, wherein only an optimal subset of information from lower quality levels is transmitted to higher level decoders. This framework is complemented with a design method to optimize system parameters. Specialization may include techniques for employing irregular quantizers and/or estimation theoretic optimal parameter selection and/or content specific optimization (e.g., exploiting harmonic structure in audio, adaptive transform coding and enhanced motion compensated prediction for video) and/or optimization of the structure of the layers, where the potential of exploiting all the common information is realized to improve overall system performance for that application. One specific technique provides improved compression of signals with multiple quality levels with or without prediction. Another specific technique provides improved compression of signals with multiple heterogeneous quality-levels with or without prediction.

Method and apparatus for layered compression of multimedia signals for storage and transmission over heterogeneous networks

A system and method for secure peer-to-peer mobile communications using cryptographic mobile unlock tokens ('CK tokens') in conjunction with mobile devices. Each CK token integrates an entire cryptosystem. Executing these cryptographic based functions entirely in the token have significant operational advantages over the typically memory-only tokens. A more secure, scalable, and lower overall system cost are just a few advantages of the CK token over executing these functions within the smartphone. Of the many uses discussed for the CK token, mobile phone enabling, stored value and medical applications, most have centered on the use of the card in conjunction with a smartphone as the touch point in the transaction.

Method and system for secure peer-to-peer mobile communications

A scalable predictive coder in which the current frame of data is predicted at the enhancement-layer by processing and combining the reconstructed signal at: (i) the current base-layer (or lower layers) frame; and (ii) the previous enhancement-layer frame. The combining rule takes into account the compressed prediction error of the base-layer, and the parameters used for its compression.

Method and apparatus for spatially scalable video compression and transmission

A self-boarding pass having a batteryless thin flexible display inlay and a housing encapsulating the batteryless thin flexible display inlay. The batteryless thin flexible display inlay has a bi-state display, display control circuitry, a secure processor and an antenna. The housing has a composite layer having front and back faces and a window aligned with the display in the batteryless thin flexible display inlay, printing on the front face of the composite later and a transparent polyester plastic layer encapsulating the composite layer, the printing and the window.

A method is described for efficiently determining total end-to-end distortion of a pre-compressed data stream, such as video streams or other media streams, at the time of delivery over a lossy-network, and for providing adaptive error-resilient delivery schemes based on distortion estimates. The methods can be utilized with single or multilayer packet streams and are particularly well suited for video streams. By way of example, distortion estimates are performed by generating side-information at the time of data stream compression, wherein the side-information is used in conjunction with information about the network status to determine an estimated distortion for the group of packets when the data stream is transported over the network to a destination end. This estimation may be utilized within described resiliency techniques in which the error correction mechanism is selected in response to the estimated distortion, which may be additionally refined in reference to cost factors.

Pitch estimation and classification into voiced, unvoiced and transitional speech were performed by a spectro-temporal auto-correlation technique. A peak picking formula was then employed. A weighing function was then applied to the power spectrum. The harmonics weighted power spectrum underwent mel-scaled band-pass filtering, and the log-energy of the filter's output was discrete cosine transformed to produce cepstral coefficients. A within-filter cubic-root amplitude compression was applied to reduce amplitude variation without compromise of the gain invariance properties.
