The subject invention pertains to branched polyolefin materials that exhibit temperature-sensitive permeability. The subject invention also concerns a package including a polymer material that exhibits temperature-sensitive permeability and separates a respiring article from the surrounding atmosphere. Methods of the subject invention involve placing a respiring article within a container comprising a polymer material exhibiting temperature-sensitive permeability.

Thermally responsive polymer materials and uses thereof

Injection stretch blowmolded polyester tubes have been developed for use in packaging water-containing products. Polyester resins have good barrier properties for organic materials but poor moisture barrier properties. It has been found that the moisture barrier properties can be increased by coating the exterior surface of the tube with a first material which adheres to the tube polyester surface and to an overlayer of a moisture barrier comprising polyvinylidene chloride, However, since the overlayer of polyvinylidene chloride can develop a yellow tint, the overlayer in one embodiment is coated with an opaque decorative layer to prevent or mask the gradual yellowing of the polyvinylidene chloride overlayer. In another embodiment where the tube is to be substantially transparent, the product in the tube will have a color that will substantially cancel the yellow tint that is developed by the polyvinylidene chloride overlayer. In a further embodiment the tube is of a color to cancel out the yellow tint color of the polyvinylidene chloride layer. The moisture transmission of the tube wall in any of the embodiments is reduced to less than about 1 gram/m,/day. In a preferred embodiment both the tube wall and the upper tube shoulder have this coating structure to decrease moisture loss from the contained product through both the tube shoulder and the sidewall.

The dual chamber dispenser consists of two tubular chambers each of which is connected to a pump. The pumps are self-priming and are of a type that draw the substances from the tubular chambers. There is an activator which also serves as the top of the dispenser, side view apertures, a foot for better stability and a spout that is angled for enhanced dispensing. The side view apertures allow for viewing the fill level of the tubular chambers. The pumps are of a type having an upper valve and a lower valve, with the upper valves a part of the piston's that move in and out of the pumping chambers. The valves in said pumps are positive closing by means of a biasing spring. The substances to be dispensed are maintained separate, one from the other, until the substances are dispensed.

Tubular containers can be produced by injection stretch blow molding processes. Such processes comprise the biaxial stretching of the preform as the preform is being converted into the tubular container. The preform will be stretched longitudinally by means of a stretch rod and laterally by means of the pressure of the blowing gas. The tubular containers produced by these processes will have burst strengths three to five times that of other tubular containers and can be produced in a thin wall collapsible form. Further, the tubular container will have a tensile strength in the machine direction along a tensile strength in the cross direction greater than other tubes, including laminate tubes, coextruded blow molded tubes and injection stretch tubes. In addition, the tubular containers can be single chamber containers or multichamber containers.

Tubular containers can be produced by injection stretch blowmolding processes. Such processes comprise the biaxial stretching of the preform as the preform is being converted into the tubular container. The preform will be stretched longitudinally by means of a stretch rod and laterally by means of the pressure of the blowing gas. The tubular containers produced by these processes will have burst strengths three to five times that of other tubular containers and can be produced in a thin wall collapsible form. Further, the tubular containers can be single chamber containers or multi-chamber containers.

The dispenser is a rigid type multi-chamber, refillable dispenser where only the substance containing chambers need to be discarded and replaced. At the point of the chambers interconnecting into the upper portion of the dispensers there is a cutter to break the seal on the chambers. In operation stabilized piston rods fit into each chamber and push against pistons having a deformable upper surface to expel the substance. The refill chambers have off-center exit openings whereby the distance to the dispenser nozzle exit is minimized. The push rods are stabilized by being of a size and shape to be proximate the walls of the chambers while actuating the pistons.
