A system for detecting a characteristic of a fluid. In one example, the system includes a tube, a float, a sensor, and a controller. The tube is configured to receive the fluid. The float is located within the tube. The sensor is configured to sense a position of the float. The controller is configured to receive, from the sensor, the position of the float, and determine a characteristic of the fluid based on the position of the float. The characteristic may be a density or a concentration.

Detecting fluid characteristics via a float

A fluid sensor including a guide, a float, a permanent magnet, and a magnetic angle sensor. In one example, the float is constrained at least in part by the guide to move along a vertical axis. The permanent magnet is mechanically coupled to the float. The magnetic angle sensor is configured to measure an angle of a magnetic field generated by the permanent magnet and is positioned such that movement of the float along the vertical axis varies the angle of the magnetic field generated by the permanent magnet through the magnetic angle sensor.

Detecting fluid level via a float

A magnetic proximity sensor includes first and second spaced wings. Each wing has a protrusion extending outwardly from an edge near or at a corner thereof. The protrusions face each other to provide a narrow gap area. A magnetic assembly secured to each of the wings extends across the gap and is spaced from the protrusions. A magnetic sensor element is disposed at the narrow gap area. The magnetic assembly projects magnetic flux toward the first wing. Magnetic flux passes via the first wing and the protrusion thereof and crosses the narrow gap area to the protrusion of the second wing. The second wing provides a return path for magnetic flux to the magnetic assembly. The magnetic proximity sensor senses decreased magnetic flux when a target approaches.

Long range magnetic proximity sensor

A method of preserving and preparing a novelty drink is disclosed, comprising a container of non-alcoholic, flavored syrup preservative and an edible scorpion for consumption. Several ounces of a preservative syrup are placed in the bottom of a container that houses a prepared scorpion carcass prior to shipment or storage. The syrup preserves the scorpion by preventing decomposition, and then acts as a mixer for an alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage to provide a novelty drink in which the scorpion is suspended within the drink. The syrup doubles as a food preservative and tasteful drink mixer. The scorpion is cooked, cleaned and devenomized prior to being mixed into the preservative syrup and presented to a consumer.

Method of stabilizing a scorpion for storage and distribution in a novelty drink form

A disposable shield for stethoscope heads, preventing the transfer of disease or other contaminants by repeated use of the stethoscope. The shield or envelope is formed from a single piece of plastic material in which the sides are folded toward each other, thereby defining two top portions overlying a bottom portion. The edges are sealed as by heat sealing, thereby defining an envelope or shield. In a preferred embodiment, the shields are formed and maintained in a ribbon or array, maintained in the form of a roll within a container or the like. Adjoining shields are interconnected at the heat sealed areas which may be perforated for ease of separation.

Disposable stethoscope head shield

Suction device for use with a tracheostomy tube to remove matter from the upper respiratory tract of a patient. The suction device is essentially tubular and open at both ends, and comprises a bulb near one end and a tubular portion which extends from the bulb to the other end. To use, one connects the end remote from the bulb to a source of vacuum and inserts the bulbous end of the suction device into the end of a tracheostomy tube which is outside the patient's body. The suction device can be used with tracheostomy tubes of different sizes, and is used in place of a catheter.
