Compositions are provided which are effective for stabilizing halogen containing polymers against the deteriorative effects of heat. These stabilizer compositions comprise (1) at least one zinc mercaptoester, (2) at least one basic inorganic alkali or alkaline earth metal compound, and, optionally, (3) at least one substituted dihydropyridine.

Novel compounds having two bis (2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)-substituted nitrogen heterocyclic rings are provided which are useful as stabilizers for organic polymers. Organic polymer containing the novel compounds having two bis (2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)-substituted nitrogen heterocyclic ring compounds exhibit improved resistance to deterioration induced by light, by heat or by a combination of light and heat.

Compositions which are useful as stabilizers for halogen containing polymers are provided comprising (1) at least one alkyltin mercaptide, (2) at least one zinc mercaptoester, and (3) at least one basic alkali or alkaline earth metal compound. A novel 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl substituted nitrogen heterocyclic ring compound is provided which is useful as a stabilizer for organic polymers. Organic polymers containing the novel 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl substituted nitrogen heterocyclic ring compound exhibit improved resistance to deterioration induced by light, by heat or by a combination of light and heat. The novel 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl substituted nitrogen heterocyclic ring compound is prepared by a novel method comprising the step of reacting 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl substituted 1,2-aliphatic diamine with a monoaldehyde or dialdehyde.
