A combined beam having a desired wavefront is produced from a first electromagnetic beam propagating in a beam direction and a second electromagnetic beam propagating in the beam direction and interfering with the first electromagnetic beam in an interference region. A first power measurement indicates a first combined power of the first electromagnetic beam and the second electromagnetic beam at a first sample point in the interference region. A second power measurement indicates a second combined power of the first electromagnetic beam and the second electromagnetic beam at a second sample point in the interference region. A phase difference between the first electromagnetic beam and the second electromagnetic beam is determined using the first power measurement and the second power measurement. The phase of the first beam can be changed based on the phase difference to produce the combined beam that has the desired wavefront.

A well packing system and method for operating a well packing system wherein an isolation string assembly has a lower circulation valve with lateral flow ports that are operated to an open position without the use of shifters on a wash pipe. The isolation string assembly is incorporated into a well packing assembly within a wellbore and includes an upper sleeve tool that provides selective production of fluids through the frac pack assembly. In addition, the isolation string includes a lower circulation valve having a sliding sleeve that is shiftable from an open position to a closed position upon receipt of a suitable pressure differential. This configuration is particularly valuable for permitting monitoring of pressure or other conditions in the annulus of the wellbore portion being packed during packing operations. Further, the lower circulation valve tool can be used to selectively allow fluid returns during the packing operation.

Washpipeless frac pack system

A frac pack system and method for operating a frac pack system wherein an isolation string assembly has a lower circulation valve with lateral flow ports that are operated to an open position without the use of shifters on a wash pipe. The isolation string assembly is incorporated into a frac pack assembly within a wellbore and includes an upper sleeve tool that provides selective production of fluids through the frac pack assembly. In addition, the isolation string includes a lower circulation valve having a sliding sleeve that is shiftable from an open position to a closed position upon receipt of a suitable pressure differential. This configuration is particularly valuable for permitting monitoring of pressure or other conditions in the annulus of the wellbore portion being packed during frac pack operations. Further, the lower circulation valve tool can be used to selectively allow fluid returns during the frac pack operation.

Coherent transfer of laser energy between laser fields with high efficiency (85-95%) is obtained by energy coupling of nearly copropagating (intersecting) laser beams in mono-atomic vapor and provides an output beam of high power when nearly equal energy pulses are tuned near resonance with the transition of the atom of the vapor (e.g., potassium vapor at 230.degree.-260.degree. C.). The frequencies of the beams differ by approximately the inverse of the excited state lifetime of the atoms for optimum combining (coupling efficiency).

A strain sensing device for measuring deformation experienced by a force carrying member. The transducer includes a strain sensing element, terminal blocks, and cable terminal connections all protectively contained within a water and contaminant resistant enclosure. The transducer enclosure includes a tubular sheath within which the sensing element and terminal blocks are housed, and a pair of rubber bushings located in opposed ends of the sheath and each formed with an axial passageway. A ball is tightly held in the axial passageway of each bushing for sealing the interior of the sheath while permitting the direct transmittal of forces to the sensing element via said balls and terminal blocks.

Waterproof strain sensing device

A magnetically mountable device for sensing deformation from loadings on machine members. The device includes a strain sensing transducer, brackets between which the transducer is supported, and magnetic bracket mounts which permit the transducer to be easily mounted on the machine member by virtue of magnetic attraction forces between the mounts and the force carrying member and yet be readily repositionable on the member so as to facilitate location of points of maximum stress concentrations during a working cycle of the machine.
