A method for in-room computer reconstruction of a three-dimensional (3-D) coronary arterial tree from routine biplane angiograms acquired at arbitrary angles and without using calibration objects. The method includes eight major steps: (1) acquiring biplane projection images of the coronary structure, (2) detecting, segmenting and identifying vessel centerlines and constructing a vessel hierarchy representation, (3) calculating bifurcation points and measuring vessel diameters in coronary angiograms if biplane imaging geometry data is not available, (4) determining biplane imaging parameters in terms of a rotation matrix R and a unit translation vector t based on the identified bifurcation points, (5) retrieving imaging parameters if biplane imaging geometry data is already known, (6) establishing the centerline correspondences of the two-dimensional arterial representations, (7) calculating and recovering the 3-D coronary arterial tree based on the calculated biplane imaging parameters, correspondences of vessel centerlines, and vessel diameters, and (8) rendering the reconstructed 3-D coronary tree and estimating an optimal view of the vasculature to minimize vessel overlap and vessel foreshortening.

Method and apparatus for three-dimensional reconstruction of coronary

A method and system for displaying medical images and computer output from various CAD schemes on the images. Images are loaded into the display system and displayed in a main viewing area. The system can display various CAD schemes, such as the automated detection of lung nodules, interstitial infiltrates, and heart size, in the case of a chest image, on the image. The method and system also display interval change (temporal subtraction) between images. Individual abnormality from CAD schemes can be viewed by clicking buttons with minified (postage stamp size) images with CAD annotation rendered into them. The images and results are then shown on a high-speed monitor. Interval change between the current and a previous image can also be chosen by clicking buttons containing minified images. Interval change between any other pair of images for a patient can be selected by choosing from minified subtraction images presented in a two-dimensional array format. A previewer next to the array permits rapid inspection of subtraction images before a subtraction set is chosen for detailed study.

Method and system for displaying medical images

A process of determining the three-dimensional location of a pacemaker lead in the heart of a subject is provided. The process includes the steps of acquiring a plurality of two-dimensional images of the lead; calculating the imaging geometry; identifying the two-dimensional position of the lead in each of the images; temporally interpolating the identified two-dimensional positions to identify a two-dimensional position of image at a single time; and calculating the three dimensional location of the lead from the two-dimensional position at that time.

Process of determining the three-dimensional location of a pacemaker

A method and system for quantitation of blood flow rates by using digital subtraction angiographic (DSA) images, wherein the spatial shift of the distribution of contrast material injected into an opacified vessel in the acquired angiographic images is analyzed as a bolus of the contrast material proceeds through the vessel. In order to determine the distance that the bolus travels between image acquisitions, there is obtained from the DSA images the distribution of vessel contrast along the length of the vessel, called and 'distance-density' curve. The distance that the contrast material travels during the time between two images acquisitions is determined by means of cross correlation of the two respective distance-density curves. The flow rate between the image acquisitions is calculated by multiplying this distance by the frame rate and the vessel cross-sectional area which is estimated from the vessel size assuming a circular cross section. Thus, for high frame-rate acquistions, instantaneous blood flow rates can be determined. The method and system are particularly useful for measurement of pulsatile blood flow rates.
