A light frequency communications system and method of using the system is disclosed. The system includes a base station and a plurality of remote units wherein the base station and all the remote units communicate in a full duplex mode utilizing a single light wave carrier. Multiplexing between the units is accomplished by modulating an audio signal on at least one subcarrier frequency.

Optical wavelength communication system and method of using same

A wireless optical short-range communication system adapted for use as an intercom system. The system can be used in fast food restaurants and similar commercial institutions. The communication system includes a base station to interconnect via optical communication a group of substantially similar physically spaced-apart, remote units. Each one of the remote units and the base units includes an optical emitter to transmit an optical message-carrying beam to the base station, and an optical receptor to receive an optical message-carrying beam from the base station. The base station includes a receptor for receiving the optical beam transmitted by the optical emitters of all of the remote units, and an optical emitter to relay the received optical beam to the optical receptors of all the remote units. The base station includes a clock arrangement for synchronizing the operation of the system 10 in a time division multiplexing carrier arrangement, by providing individual discrete time slots for the transmission of the signals from the remote units to the base unit, and for the transmission of the signals from the base unit to the remote units. In this regard, the base station and each one of the remote units include an oscillator to modulate the audio frequency on a predetermined subcarrier frequency, and another oscillator to modulate the subcarrier frequency on a predetermined optical infrared carrier frequency. This method of multiplexing a duplex communication system on a single carrier frequency can also be used in a radio frequency system as well as in an optical system.

Wireless optical communication system utilizing a single optical carrier

A communication system includes a filter device for passing only a desired carrier frequency, and a circuit for splitting the passed carrier frequency into a pair of signals. A circuit for feeding back one of the signals to the filter device for causing an oscillation to occur at the desired carrier frequency for direct broadcast purposes.

The battery charger includes a slope detector which responds to the battery voltage of the battery being charged, to generate a peak indicating signal, when the voltage decreases following the peak charging voltage of the battery. A peak hold device responds to the peak indicating signal to cause the charger to switch abruptly from a high charge mode to a low trickle charge mode.

Battery charger

A battery charger for recharging nickel cadmium batteries includes trickle charge, fast charge and deep charge modes. A control circuit responsive to the terminal voltage of the battery includes a clock-driven mode control counter having counter states which condition power supply circuitry within the charger to the mode appropriate to the battery terminal voltage. The counter is conditioned to its deep discharge state by actuation of a user-accessible switch. When the terminal voltage falls below a first predetermined level, the counter automatically reverts from the discharge state to its fast charge state to establish the fast charge mode. When the terminal voltage rises above a second predetermined level, the counter automatically reverts to its trickle charge state to establish the trickle charge mode.
