A medical device may include a handle having a handle lumen extending therethrough. The medical device further may include a first body shaft including a first body shaft lumen in direct communication with the handle lumen and an RF electrode tip may be positioned at a distal end of the first body shaft. The RF electrode tip may include a lumen extending therethrough and in direct communication with the lumen of the first body shaft. Additionally, an energy delivery wire may be electrically coupled with the RF electrode tip.

Systems and methods for tissue coagulation

A medical system includes an insertion device including a handle and a delivery portion, a laser fiber, a conductive wire, and a lock. The laser fiber extends through the insertion device and is coupled to a laser slider to control a position of the laser fiber relative to a distal end of the delivery portion. The conductive wire extends through the insertion device and is coupled to a wire slider to control a position of the laser fiber relative to a distal end of the delivery portion. The lock is positioned within the handle and is movable in order to selectively lock either the movement of the laser slider or lock the movement of the wire slider.

Medical systems, devices, and related methods

Devices for guiding an instrument into a body of a patient, at a targeted point of entry and along an insertion path at a targeted insertion angle, are described herein, such as a guide for an access needle in a PCNL procedure for accessing the kidney to remove kidney stones, the devices comprising a base component, a guide assembly, and optionally an insertion mechanism. The base component is aligned in use with the point of entry and the guide assembly cooperates with the base component to allow for the instrument to be aligned and fixed at any circumferential angle around an axis perpendicular to the point of entry and at any vertical angle ranging from 0 to 45 degrees away from the axis in a direction toward the body. The optional mechanism allows for mechanical insertion once the instrument is aligned and fixed. Devices and methods disclosed herein allow a medical professional to accurately and stably guide an instrument at a targeted point and angle and to a desired depth, while minimizing the exposure to radiation in the surgical field that is used to image the insertion path.

Devices and methods for guiding a surgical instrument

A marking device may include a body. The body may be configured to transition between a closed configuration and an open configuration. The body may further include two arms. A distal end of each arm may be coupled to a distal end of the body. The marking device may further include a suture coupled to the body. Application of a force on a proximal end of each arm may be configured to cause the body to transition between the closed configuration and the open configuration.

Tissue extraction devices and related methods

According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a medical device may include a shaft assembly. The shaft assembly may include a sheath having a first lumen. The shaft assembly may also include a rotatable shaft extending through the first lumen. The rotatable shaft may be rotatable relative to the sheath, and may have a second lumen and a side opening. The shaft assembly may also include an electrode extending through the second lumen and the side opening, and radially outwardly from the rotatable shaft. The electrode may be movable relative to the rotatable shaft.

Devices and methods for prostate tissue ablation and/or resection

An aspect of the present disclosure may include an apparatus having an optical waveguide. The optical waveguide may have a distal end surface non-normal to a longitudinal centerline of a distal end portion of the optical waveguide, wherein the distal end surface may define a portion of an interface configured to redirect electromagnetic radiation propagated from within the optical waveguide and incident on the portion of the interface to a direction offset from the longitudinal centerline. The apparatus may further include a capillary component which may have a first portion of an inner surface heat-fused to a portion of an outer surface of the optical waveguide. The apparatus may also include a reinforcement component which may have a proximal end surface disposed distal to the distal end surface of the optical waveguide such that the distal end surface of the optical waveguide and the proximal end surface of the reinforcement component may be separated by a non-zero distance, and wherein a portion of an outer surface of the reinforcement component may be heat-fused to a second portion of the inner surface of the capillary component.

Methods and apparatus related to a side-fire optical fiber having a robust distal end portion

An adjustable profile probe for insertion in a body cavity to sense a biological parameter includes an elongated shaft having a sensor panel and a resiliently expandable portion substantially opposing the sensor panel. An expansion mechanism is at least partially housed within the elongated shaft for varying the profile of the probe. The expansion mechanism includes a base plate adjacent to the resiliently expandable portion and a plurality of lever arms pivotally mounted to the base plate and the sensor panel. An actuating member pivotally connects to the lever arms such that upon movement of the actuating member, the resiliently expandable portion is selectively collapsed or expanded by the plurality of lever arms pivoting between a minimal profile position near parallel with the elongated shaft and an expanded profile position with the lever arms being near perpendicular to the elongated shaft.

An urethral sealing device comprising first and second body portions selectively attacheable to one another to form a unitary element including a first catheter lumen extending therethrough between proximal and distal ends of the unitary element wherein, when the sealing device is in an operative position, the distal end is positioned within a urinary bladder and a sealing element extending radially outward from the unitary element so that, when the sealing device is in the operative position, the sealing element engages one of a wall of the urethra and a wall of the urinary bladder around an orifice at which the urethra opens into the urinary bladder to seal the urethra.

Urethral sealing method and device

A medical stent provides an active agent to a patient's body while simultaneously maintaining an open passageway within the body of the patient. The stent includes a first segment, a second segment, a connecting segment disposed between the first and second segments, and the active agent. The active agent may be a hemostatic agent that stops or controls bleeding by coagulation, or any other medical drug, such as, for example an antibiotic or an anticoagulant. When the stent is properly positioned within the patient's urinary system, the first segment is located on one side of the external sphincter and the second segment is located on the other side. The connecting segment is sized to extend through the external sphincter to couple the first and second segments together while not interfering with the normal operation of the external sphincter.

Delivering an agent to a patient's body

Disclosed are devices and methods for treating disease in a urinary bladder. The devices include a bladder liner for insertion into the urinary bladder and catheters positioned within the urinary bladder to carry urine from the ureters to an outside collection container. The bladder liner and catheters are constructed of biocompatible materials and are configured to create a seal with the urethra and ureters. The bladder liner may be adapted to deliver medicinal agents to the urinary bladder. Methods of treating disease in the urinary bladder include isolating urine from the bladder wall to allow sufficient time for the bladder wall to heal e.g., by implanting the aforementioned devices. Healing or pain relief may be enhanced by instilling pharmaceutical agents between the liner and bladder wall without dilutional effects.

Apparatus and methods for treating the urinary bladder

A delivery system for placement of a stent within a body of a patient includes a stent, a retaining structure, and an elongated member. The stent includes a coil which defines a lumen and has an initial length when in an expanded rest state. Adjacent turns of the coil are positioned to substantially prevent tissue ingrowth through the turns and into the lumen when the stent is placed within the body. The retaining structure is sized for insertion into the body and includes one or more pins. The pins collapse and deform the stent while the stent maintains substantially its initial length. The elongated member is coupled to the retaining structure and enables insertion of the retaining structure with the stent into the body such that the stent can be deployed from the retaining structure and placed into the body while maintaining substantially its initial length.
