An injector for a gas turbine combustor including a catalyst coated surface forming a passage for feed gas flow and a channel for oxidant gas flow establishing an axial gas flow through a flow conditioner disposed at least partially within an inner wall of the injector. The flow conditioner includes a length with an interior passage opening into upstream and downstream ends for passage of the axial gas flow. An interior diameter of the interior passage smoothly reduces and then increases from upstream to downstream ends.

A fuel injector for a gas turbine engine may include a pilot assembly extending along a longitudinal axis. The pilot assembly may be configured to direct a pilot fuel-air mixture to a combustor of the gas turbine engine. The fuel injector may also include a rich catalyst module circumferentially disposed about the pilot assembly. The catalyst module may be configured to simultaneously direct a stream of compressed air and a stream of first fuel-air mixture therethrough without intermixing. The fuel injector may also include a post mix zone disposed downstream of the catalyst module. The post mix zone may be configured to mix the compressed air and the first fuel air mixture to create a main fuel-air mixture. The fuel injector may further include an air swirler disposed downstream of the post mix zone. The air swirler may be configured to direct the main fuel-air mixture to the combustor without intermixing with the pilot fuel-air mixture.

An exhaust treatment system is provided. The system may include a particulate trap configured to remove one or more types of particulate matter from an exhaust flow, the exhaust flow including at least a portion of a totality of exhaust gases produced by an engine. The system may further include a burner assembly configured to increase a temperature of gases in the exhaust flow at a location upstream from the particulate trap. The burner assembly may include an exhaust inlet oriented in a direction along a first axis and configured to direct the exhaust flow into the burner assembly and an exhaust outlet oriented in a direction along a second axis at an angle relative to the first axis, the exhaust outlet being configured to direct the exhaust flow out of the burner assembly toward the particulate trap.

Present gas turbine engines fail to effectively and efficiently control the emission emitted therefrom. Many existing systems estimate the amount of constituents emitted within the exhaust gas verses measuring the actual quantity of constituent emitted within the exhaust gas. The present exhaust gas monitoring system has the ability to measure the actual quantity of an emission constituent, such as carbon monoxide (CO), sends a signal to a control box, interprets the signal, sends a second signal to an actuation device controlling a fluid flow to the combustion section resulting in the controlling of emissions emitted from the gas turbine engine within the exhaust gas.

A fuel injection nozzle includes a first cavity having a first preestablished cross-sectional area and a second preestablished cross-sectional area being larger than the first preestablished cross-sectional area. And, an actuating device being positioned at an inlet end of the first cavity and controllably varying the flow of a compressed fluid through the fuel injection nozzle. The fuel injection nozzle further including a second cavity having a flow of compressed fluid flowing therethrough.

A premix fuel injection nozzle includes a first mixing chamber having a preestablished cross-sectional area and a second mixing chamber having a preestablished cross-sectional areal being larger than the preestablished cross-sectional area of the first mixing chamber. The first mixing chamber and the second mixing chamber are in communication with each other.

The known control systems for reducing NOx in the combustion systems of past gas turbine engines has incorporated a variety of expensive and complicated techniques to reduce the NOx level. The present apparatus reduces the formation of NOx within the combustion zone by controlling the air portion of the air/fuel ratio. The present apparatus includes a device for controllably varying the quantity of compressed air directed into a manifold resulting in controlling the air to a plurality of injection nozzles and into a combustor. A throttling mechanism moves between an open position and a closed position varying the flow rate of compressor air to the combustor apparatus provides an economical, reliable and effective method for reducing and controlling the amount of nitrogen oxide (NOx) carbon monoxide (CO) and unburned hydrocarbon (UHC) emitted from the gas turbine engine.

Low emission combustion system for a gas turbine engine

The known systems and injector nozzles for reducing NOx in the combustion systems of past gas turbine engines has generally failed to effectively and efficiently reduce the NOx level. The present system reduces the formation of NOx within the combustion zone by controlling the air/fuel ratio and more explicitly by controlling the air portion of the air/fuel ratio. The present injector nozzle includes a device for introducing a primary supply of air through the injector nozzle which is sized to have a predetermined cross-sectional area. The injector nozzle further includes a device for introducing a secondary supply of air through the injector nozzle which is sized to have a predetermined area. A device for introducing a primary supply of air through the injector at a controlled rate and a device for passing a main source of fuel through the injector nozzle at a controlled rate relative to the quantity of primary supply of air. The system with the injector nozzle provides an economical, reliable and effective method for reducing and controlling the amount of nitrogen oxide (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO) and unburned hydrocarbon (UHC) emitted from the gas turbine engine.
