Non-grounded hydraulic transmission apparatus

A flexible adaptor mounts an aircraft gas turbine engine to a test stand. The adaptor includes an upper frame configured for mounting on the test stand, and a lower frame spaced from the upper frame and configured for supporting the engine. A spring flexibly joins the lower frame to the upper frame to simulate the flexibility of an aircraft wing which supports the engine during operation.

The invention is a water remover-soil stabilizer, comprised of PVC pipes assembled in a polygonal shape with a discharge pipe at an upper end and connected to a water withdrawal pump. Water is admitted to the lower, horizontal pipe, through a plurality of extremely narrow slits, longitudinally spaced, and laterally extending circumferentially therein which render the section water pervious. After the pit is dug, the invention is inserted into the pit and the pumping is started. The invention withdraws only the water since the width of the slits is less than the diameter of the average sized sugar-sand grain.

Water removal system

A new and improved gas turbine engine including a gas generator and a power turbine is disclosed. The power turbine includes a first rotor having a plurality of first turbine blade rows extending radially outwardly therefrom, and a second rotor having a plurality of second turbine blade rows extending radially inwardly therefrom. The power turbine is supported aft of the gas generator and is effective for receiving combustion gases therefrom and expanding the gases through the first and second turbine blade rows for extracting substantially all output power therefrom for driving the first and second rotors in counterrotating directions.

Counter rotation power turbine

A lightweight counterrotatable propeller system driven by a rotatable shaft is disclosed. The system includes first and second counterrotatable propellers, each propeller including a plurality of blades mounted on first and second hubs, respectively. Each blade is attached to the hub by means of a ball screw which converts centrifugal force on each of the rotating propeller blades into a pitch changing force. Gearing means for operatively connecting the shaft with each propeller are located between the propellers with a carrying member for one of the propellers forming an outer wall which radially bounds the gearing means. Additionally, non-rotating actuating means for changing propeller pitch are operatively connected to the blades of each of said first and second propellers through first and second thrust bearings, respectively.

Blade gearing and pitch changing mechanisms for coaxial counterrotating

A gas turbine including at least a compressor, a combustor, and a turbine is constructed to operate at a preferred thermal efficiency in predetermined compressor and turbine flow pressure ratios. A fluid, such as steam, for example produced by waste heat and pressurized as water, and characterized as having a higher specific heat at constant pressure than effluent from the combustor is introduced into such effluent to provide a turbine operating medium of improved potential to transfer energy downstream of the combustor. Such injection provides effective variable geometry to the system. This injection system maintains such pressure flow ratios substantially independent of engine power output.

In one form of the invention, means are provided for sensing changes in electrical power demanded from an electrical generator driven by a gas turbine engine. In response, other means change the rate of fuel and air delivery to the engine in proportion to the demand changes and keep the combustor fuel-air ratio substantially constant.

An improved flexible coupling for use in conjunction with a flexible high speed coupling shaft includes means for increasing the coupling axial stiffness while maintaining a high degree of alignment offset capability and the same overall shaft axial stiffness.

Flexible coupling

A portable gas cleaning unit having a box-shaped housing supporting filters operable to remove particulates, pollens, odors, and smoke from a gas, as air. A motor driven fan located within the housing moves gas through the filters and discharges cleaned gas to the environment outside of the housing. In one form of the invention, the motor is a D. C. motor powered by a 12-volt battery. The filters are mounted in a recess in the top wall of the housing and include a coarse fiber filter and a particulate charcoal filter. A protective open rectangular grid is located over the fiber filter and is mounted with a tight fit on the top wall to hold the filters in the recess. An open top tank is located within the housing for carrying a liquid, as water. Vapor plates mounted on the tank are used to facilitate the evaporation of liquid into the gas flowing through the housing. The tank has a longitudinal extension adapted to move through an opening in a side wall of the housing to allow liquid to be placed into the tank.
