A ground lug insulator assembly having a base member that mounts to a ground lug stud projecting from a splice closure. The base member is cup-shaped and houses a wire connector therein which is connected to the ground lug. A cup-shaped cap member is adapted to mate with the base member and to latch thereto after both are filled with B-sealant gel.

Terminated arrays (22,22) of optical fibers are spliced together by a splicing device (20) which includes a housing (40). The housing includes two sidewalls (42,42) and two endwalls (46,46), each endwall adapted to have an end portion of a terminated array inserted therethrough. The end portions of the terminated arrays are received between two negative chips (33,33) disposed between two backing plates (60,60) to cause the terminated arrays to be aligned. Clamping means (70) includes two spring clips (72,72) each adapted to be disposed in an armed position to allow insertion of the end portions of the terminated arrays and then to be moved to a clamping position in which portions of the clips are in compressive engagement with the backing plates to hold the terminated arrays in alignment and in the housing.

Optical fiber array splicing device

In an optical fiber connector in which each of two optical fibers (21-21) is terminated by a plug (40) having a passageway (41) for receiving an end portion of the optical fiber, eccentricity of one fiber end relative to the other is reduced by causing each optical fiber to be mounted in a specified orientation with respect to its associated plug passageway. In one embodiment, because the two cylindrical plugs which are used in the connector are derived from contiguous segments (111-111) of length of tubular stock, because the plugs are arranged so that the contiguous ends of the plugs before separation from the stock become the mating ends in the connection and because the plugs after separation from each other have the same rotational orientation with respect to each other as before, the predetermined orientation of the fiber ends in the plug passageways of the two adjoining plugs prior to separation of the segments from the stock reduces substantially any eccentricity which otherwise would be caused by the random mounting of the fibers in the associated passageways.
