A system and method for measuring and adjusting rotor to stator clearances is disclosed, as well as a turbomachine embodying the system and method. In an embodiment, a turbomachine is assembled, including a stator having an upper and a lower stator shell, and a rotor disposed within the stator. A cold clearance between the rotor and the stator is determined at each of a plurality of clearance measurement points using an in situ clearance sensor system. Each of the clearance measurement points is axially spaced from each other clearance measurement point. The cold clearance between the rotor and the stator is adjusted based on the determined cold clearances, by displacing one of the upper stator shell or the lower stator shell relative to a foundation, thereby changing a shape of the upper stator shell or the lower stator shell to accommodate a position of the rotor within the stator.

Turbomachine cold clearance adjustment

A steam turbine with a drum rotor utilizing individual nozzle ring assemblies in the IP section incased by a single shell. In one embodiment, a steam turbine has a high pressure (HP) section with a double shell drum and an intermediate pressure (IP) section with a single shell drum, with the IP section including a plurality of individual nozzle ring assemblies axially spaced along the single shell casing, such that each nozzle ring assembly surrounds the drum rotor. In other embodiments, a low pressure section (LP) of the steam turbine can have a single-flow or dual-flow connection to a condenser, and the condenser can be positioned to the side, vertically below, or axially aligned with the LP section.

A system for removing moisture from a steam/water mixture engaging a stationary component of a steam turbine. The system includes an airfoil located within a flow path of a steam turbine. The airfoil is configured for removing moisture from a steam/water mixture traveling in the flow path. To this end, the airfoil includes a cavity in flow communication with the steam path through at least one inlet and outlet opening, near the leading and trailing edge of the airfoil, respectively. Moisture and steam are extracted from the surface through the inlet openings, the steam and water are separated in the cavity, the separated water flows towards the bottom end, and the dry steam flows through the outlet opening and returns to the steam path. The dry steam blowing out of the trailing edge reduces the size of secondary droplets, and thereby prevents erosion.

System for reducing the level of erosion affecting a component

A cooling path is defined through a double-flow steam turbine. The steam turbine includes a generator end and a turbine end and a double-flow tub diaphragm disposed axially between the generator end and the turbine end. A first stage of the steam turbine includes a plurality of first stage nozzles and a plurality of first stage buckets, and a steam path is defined from an inlet region, through the turbine end, to a steam outlet. The cooling path includes cooling holes in the tub diaphragm and root radial seals permitting steam flow beneath the tub diaphragm and around the first stage nozzles and back into the steam path before the first stage buckets.

Method and apparatus for double flow turbine first stage cooling

A support arrangement for an exhaust hood. The inner casing in the inventive arrangement is supported directly by the curb foundation. As a result, the effect of pressure changes in the exhaust hood are eliminated and the effect of temperature changes of the exhaust hood are reduced relative to the positioning of the inner casing and the rotor within it. Shaft bearings may be outside the exhaust hood located in a standard directly on the foundation. Rotor end packing may also be attached to the standard. The exhaust hood can be a much simpler design with less structural supports and less fabrication time. Easier maintenance is facilitated because the shaft bearings are not tucked under the exhaust hood and the end packing can be removed without removal of a large section of the exhaust hood.

In a one embodiment, a balance weight includes a base, a rotational axis extending from the base, and a circumference having opposite cam surfaces about the rotational axis. The opposite cam surfaces are at least partially angled toward one another in a direction away from the base along the rotational axis. The balance weight is designed to mount in a groove of a rotary component of a turbine engine.
