The present invention is directed to improved flexibilized, plasticized polyvinyl chloride films bonded with a substrate by means of an aqueous based pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive emulsion polymers. Conventional emulsion based pressure sensitive adhesives were comprised of a copolymer comprised of polymerized units of acrylic esters and ethylenically unsaturated monomers, the copolymer having a T of from &minus;15 to &minus;70&deg; C. The improvement in the aqueous based, emulsion polymerized pressure sensitive adhesives resides in the incorporation of polymerized units of a vinyl C ester of a neo-acid into the adhesive. The vinyl ester is formed from a mixture of propylene oligomers and such vinyl ester is represented by the chemical formula: C H CO CH&boxH;CH . Preferably, the adhesive includes units of methyl methacrylate, butyl acrylate of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate and a carboxylic acid selected from acrylic acid or methacrylic acid.

Water borne pressure sensitive adhesive compositions derived from copolymers of higher vinyl esters

This invention relates to a process for producing an aminoalkylal derivative of polymer containing a plurality of polymerized vinyl alcohol units which are vicinal, preferably a process for producing the 4-aminobutyral of poly(vinyl alcohol). The improved process for the amino-acetalization of such polymers described herein comprises reacting a 5 of 6 member cyclic imine of the structure ##STR1## wherein n is an integer from 3 to 4 with the polymer containing a plurality of polymerized vinyl alcohol units. In a preferred reaction, 1,2-pyrroline is reacted with the polymer containing polymerized vinyl alcohol units under acidic conditions. Preferably the reaction is carried out by a slurry phase process employing a non solvent carrier such as methanol for the poly(vinyl alcohol). The present invention is directed to improved aqueous based pressure sensitive adhesive emulsion polymers. Conventional emulsion based pressure sensitive adhesives are comprised of a copolymer comprised of polymerized units of acrylic esters and ethylenically unsaturated monomers, the copolymer having a T.sub.g of from -15 to -70.degree. C. The improvement in the aqueous based, emulsion polymerized pressure sensitive adhesives resides in the incorporation of a vinyl C.sub.8-13 ester of a neo-acid into the copolymer present in the pressure sensitive adhesives. Such vinyl ester is formed from a mixture of propylene oligomers and such vinyl ester is represented by the chemical formula C.sub.8-13 H.sub.17-27 CO.sub.2 CH.dbd.CH.sub.2.

Vinyl naphthenate monomer mixtures are prepared by transvinylation of naphthenic acid in the presence of a catalyst of a palladium carboxylate complexed with one or more aryl N-containing ligands and distilling the resulting vinyl naphthenate monomers in the presence of the catalyst at pot temperatures exceeding 80.degree. The present invention relates to a process for the production of polyurethanes wherein a tertiary amine functionality is incorporated into the side chain of an aromatic diamine, preferably a diaminobenzamide, to form a catalytic polyurethane chain extender. These chain extenders are polyurethane catalysts that provide adequate cure without residual odor and safety hazards associated with the more traditional tertiary amine catalysts. When reacted with the isocyanate reactive group the non-tertiary amine portion of the chain extender is bound to the polymeric network. Diffusion of the catalyst species from the polyurethane has been prevented, thus negating odor and toxicity as problems. These aromatic diamines provide enhanced polyurethane physical properties.

The present invention relates to a process for the production of polyurethanes wherein a tertiary amine functionality is incorporated into the side chain of an aromatic diamine, preferably a diaminobenzamide, to form a catalytic polyurethane chain extender. These chain extenders are polyurethane catalysts that provide adequate cure without residual odor and safety hazards associated with the more traditional tertiary amine catalysts. When reacted with the isocyanate reactive group the non-tertiary amine portion of the chain extender is bound to the polymeric network. Diffusion of the catalyst species from the polyurethane has been prevented, thus negating odor and toxicity as problems. The aromatic diamine provides enhanced polyurethane physical properties.

Novel organic tertiary phosphine oxides for example, bidentate organophosphorus actinide extractants, such as the carbamoylmethylphosphine oxides (CMPO's) are disclosed, such compounds can be prepared (e.g., in 85% or better yield and purity) by a process involving phase transfer catalysis, under conditions where degradive hydrolysis of the products or reactants is substantially avoided. For example, tertiary carbamoylmethylphosphine oxides which are useful as extractants for transplutonium elements are disclosed and can be prepared by reaction of the corresponding secondary phosphine oxides with 2-substituted acetamides (wherever the substituent is a good leaving group, e.g., chlorine) in a two-phase system containing a high concentration of an aqueous base (preferably sodium hydroxide) and a suitable phase transfer catalyst, e.g., tetralkylammonium chlorides.

Novel organic tertiary phoshine oxides and organic phoshonic acid esters, for example, bidentate organophosphorus actinide extractants, such as the carbamoylmethylphosphonates (CMP's) can be prepared (for example, in 90% or better yield and purity) by a process involving phase transfer catalysis, under conditions where degradive hydrolysis of the products or reactants is substantially avoided.
