A steering system and method can determine one or more position-related characteristics of a steering column of a machine, determine that the one or more position-related characteristics indicate that a resistive force is to be applied to the steering column, and control operation of an electric motor to apply the resistive force to the steering column, wherein a mechanical stop (e.g., a progressive mechanical stop) can be provided to restrict rotation of the steering column. One or more virtual stops may be set to limit rotation of the steering column by way of controlling the operation of the electric motor to apply the resistive force.

A steering assembly for a machine is provided. The steering assembly includes a frame. The steering assembly also includes a steering column mounted on the frame. The steering column includes a steering input device and a controller communicably coupled to the steering input device. The steering assembly further includes a steering wheel operably coupled to the steering column. The steering wheel is disposed adjacent to the steering input device.

A sealing mechanism is provided to seal a lead from a closed cavity of an apparatus. The sealing mechanism includes a mounting portion sealingly connected to the apparatus, a cap member having a recess defined therein with an elastomeric grommet compressively disposed in the recess. The elastomeric grommet has a passageway defined therethrough for the lead from the closed cavity to past through. The compressive forces induced into the elastomeric grommet applies a compressive force on the lead to provide a seal. The cap member is sealingly connected to the mounting portion. Consequently, the closed cavity in the apparatus is effectively sealed from the atmosphere and contaminants cannot enter the closed cavity and create premature failure of the component therein, such as, for example, an electrical coil.
