A lever assembly is for an operating mechanism of an electrical switching apparatus. The electrical switching apparatus includes a number of pairs of separable contacts structured to move from a CLOSED position to a TRIPPED OPEN position in response to a trip condition. The operating mechanism has an enclosure member and a number of biasing elements coupled to the enclosure member. The biasing elements are structured to move the separable contacts from the CLOSED position to the TRIPPED OPEN position. The lever assembly includes a lever member structured to engage the enclosure member, and a component located on the lever member. The component is structured to extend through each of the biasing elements in order to lengthen each of the biasing elements when the separable contacts are in the CLOSED position.

Electrical switching apparatus, and operating mechanism and lever assembly therefor

An operating handle interface assembly is for an electrical system. The electrical system includes an enclosure having an interior and an exterior, and a plurality of electrical switching apparatus disposed within the interior. Each of the electrical switching apparatus includes an operating handle. The operating handle interface assembly includes a linking assembly structured to interconnect the operating handles of a plurality of the electrical switching apparatus. An elongated shaft includes opposing first and second ends. The first end cooperates with one of the operating handles of one of the electrical switching apparatus. The second end is disposed on the exterior of the enclosure. A handle attachment is coupled to the second end of the elongated shaft on the exterior of the enclosure. The handle attachment is operable among a plurality of positions to correspondingly operate the operating handles of all of the interconnected electrical switching apparatus.

A jumper is for an electrical switching apparatus having a plurality of poles. Each of the poles comprises a terminal. The terminal of a first one of the poles is proximate the terminal of a second one of the poles. The jumper includes a jumper member having an attachment portion and a heat sink portion. The attachment portion is structured to electrically connect the terminal of the first one of the poles to the terminal of the second one of the poles. The heat sink portion includes a plurality of spaced apart heat transfer members that are arranged in a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns.

A guard assembly is for an electrical enclosure. The electrical enclosure includes a housing, an electrical switching apparatus, and a handle. The guard assembly includes: a shaft including a first end and a second end, the first end being structured to be coupled to the handle, the second end being structured to be coupled to the electrical switching apparatus; and a sleeve assembly structured to move between a retracted position and an extended position, the sleeve assembly including a sleeve member, the sleeve member including: a base located proximate the first end of the shaft, and a cover portion extending from the base toward the second end of the shaft, the shaft extending at least partially through the cover portion. Responsive to the sleeve assembly moving from the retracted position toward the extended position, the sleeve member moves away from the second end of the shaft.

An improved circuit interrupter assembly provides enablement of an interlock feature for a circuit interrupter situated within a cabinet having an external handle for switching the circuit interrupter between ON and OFF conditions when the cabinet door is closed. The improved circuit interrupter assembly includes a motion transfer apparatus that provides such enablement of the interlock feature for cabinets of any of a variety of depths. The motion transfer apparatus includes a Bowden cable that extends between a first retention assembly situated at the door of the cabinet and a second retention assembly situated at the interlock feature of the circuit interrupter. The Bowden cable has a biased drive cable that extends between a pair of elements and which thus transfers the motion of the cabinet door in its closed position to enable cooperation with the interlock.

A push-to-trip mechanism is provided for a handle assembly for an electrical switching apparatus, such as circuit breaker. The handle assembly includes a casing coupled to the exterior of the circuit breaker housing over the push-to-trip button of the circuit breaker. The push-to-trip mechanism includes an actuating member at least partially disposed within an aperture of the casing. The actuating member is movable between an actuated position corresponding to the actuating member actuating the push-to-trip button, and an unactuated position corresponding to the actuating member not actuating the push-to-trip button. A resilient element biases the actuating member toward the unactuated position. The push-to-trip mechanism is operable from the exterior of the handle assembly casing, thereby enabling the push-to-trip button of the circuit breaker to be actuated, without removing the casing.

An electrical switching apparatus includes a circuit breaker device having a molded housing with line and load ends, plural terminals disposed from the housing, and first and second handle devices. The terminals electrically and mechanically engage a circuit breaker mounting block. The first and second handle devices engage the housing at or about the respective line and load ends. The handle devices remove the circuit breaker device from the mounting block. Each of the handle devices includes an insulative barrier having a first portion, a second portion and a third portion. The first portion at least partially covers a corresponding one of the housing ends. The second portion is coupled to the housing at or about the corresponding one of the housing ends. The third portion is structured to be manually grasped in order to pull the insulative barrier together with the circuit breaker device away from the mounting block.

Handle apparatus and electrical switching apparartus employing the same

An operating mechanism is for a circuit breaker housed by an enclosure assembly including a panel movable between a closed position and an open position. The operating mechanism includes a linkage and an operating member. The operating mechanism is coupled to the handle of the circuit breaker to provide operation of the handle from the exterior of the enclosure when the panel is closed. The operating member includes a first end having an engaging portion coupled to the linkage of the operating mechanism, and a second end structured for gripping by a user. The operating member enables the handle of the circuit breaker to be operated, without requiring the use of separate hand tools, when the panel of the enclosure is open and the handle portion of the operating member is actuated.

An improved shock resistant auxiliary switch mechanism for a circuit breaker includes a common conductor having a conduction plate that is slidably translatable between electrically conductive contact with first and second conductors. The conduction plate is biased by a spring in a direction toward contact with the first conductor. An improved shock resistant circuit breaker including the improved auxiliary switch mechanism includes a crossbar that is operatively engageable with the conduction plate to releasably retain the conduction plate in a position in contact with the second conductor. When the circuit breaker is in an ON position, the conduction plate is operatively interposed between the crossbar and the bias of the spring.

A securing member for use in a switch assembly of a circuit breaker includes a support post and a fastener. The securing member assists in mounting an alarm switch onto a bracket of the switch assembly and further resists movement of the actuation levers of a pair of auxiliary switches from moving beyond a first given position and from potentially becoming caught in an operating mechanism that pivots a crossbar. The dual functionality of the securing member is cost effective and occupies only a minimal amount of additional space within the crowded confines of the circuit breaker.

A circuit breaker having a magnetic trip assembly includes a load terminal conductor having a first section, a second section, and a transition section connecting the first section and the second section, the transition section having a pair of faces lying in a plane generally perpendicular to a surface of the second section; a current transformer positioned around the second section of the load terminal conductor, the current transformer having a first side positioned generally parallel to the faces of transition section; and an insulating barrier positioned between the first side of the current transformer and the faces of the transition section of the load terminal conductor, the insulating barrier having a generally planar portion and a pair of leg portions extending from one edge of the generally planar portion, each leg portion lying along a side of the second section of the load terminal conductor and having a protrusion positioned adjacent a distal end thereof, each of said protrusions being positioned adjacent a bottom edge of the second section of the load terminal conductor. Insulating barriers for use in such circuit breakers are also included.

An electrical circuit breaker comprises a housing; separable contacts housed within the housing and moveable between a closed position and an open position; an operating mechanism for moving the separable contacts between the closed position and the open position thereof, the operating mechanism having a first position and a second position corresponding to the open position of the separable contacts; a latch for latching said operating mechanism in the first position thereof and for releasing the operating mechanism to the second position thereof; a trip bar movable in a first direction and a second direction for unlatching said latch, the trip bar including first and second pivot pockets for pivotally mounting the trip bar within the housing; a sensor for sensing an electrical condition associated with the separable contacts and for moving the trip bar in the second direction in order to unlatch the latch, to release the operating mechanism to the second position thereof, and to move the separable contacts to the open position thereof; and first and second clips respectively positioned in the first and second pivot pockets for providing bearing surfaces in the trip bar.

A circuit breaker having a trip unit includes a lock out assembly positioned adjacent the trip unit for controlling access thereto. The lock out assembly includes a base member, a cover member and a slide member received therebetween. The slide member is moveable between various positions for controlling access to settings for the various operating parameters of the circuit breaker as provided by the trip unit.
