A load cell in accordance with the present invention comprises an insert defining a hub having a central opening dimensioned to receive a shaft. The insert is removably fixed to the shaft, and a cylindrical sleeve is configured and dimensioned to surround the insert. The sleeve is machined with interior notches. The insert is suspended and rotatably fixed within the sleeve by flanges which are integral with and project from the insert's hub into the sleeve's interior notches. The flanges are configured to respond with deformation to forces applied to the shaft, and strain gauges bonded to the flanges exhibit changes in resistance according to the degree of flange deformation.

Load cell

An apparatus for slitting a web moving along a path comprises a mounting block adapted to be fixed at a location adjacent to the web path. A guard assembly includes a guard plate secured to rod members projecting from the mounting block. A blade guide is mounted on and shiftable along the rod members, and at least one blade is carried by the blade guide. An actuator serves to shift the blade guide along the rod members between an extended position at which the blade projects in a slitting position beyond the guard plate and into the web path, and a retracted position at which the blade is withdrawn from its slitting position and from the web path to a position where it is shielded from exposure by the guard plate.

Dual inline slitter

A joint is provided for articulately interconnecting the adjacent ends of rail assemblies in a tenter frame. The rail assemblies are arranged consecutively along a guide path, and have parallel guide channels for the advancing and returning legs of continuous chains carrying the clamps that grip the edges of the webs being transversely stretched. The joint includes flexible bands arranged to define intermediate channels connecting the guide channels of the rail assemblies. The flexible bands are resiliently deflected in response to articulation of the rail assemblies to thereby arcuately configure the outer medicate channels.

Tenter frame joint

An apparatus for continuously winding web material into a succession of rolled packages includes spaced side frames which define a transfer path leading from a first winding station to a second winding station. A plurality of rotatably driven winding drums extend between the side frames and support the cores and packages wound thereon during a winding operation which begins at the first winding station and continues during transfer of the cores to the second winding station. Tracks are fixed to the side frames which mount a transfer carriage movable on the tracks between the first and second winding stations. A first hold down mechanism and a first rider roll are carried by the carriage and a second hold down mechanism and second rider roll are located at the second winding station. The first hold down mechanism engages grooves in the ends of mandrels which are inserted into the cores to axially stabilize the mandrels. Both the first and second hold down mechanisms are simultaneously engageable with the grooves in the mandrel ends during hand off from one to the other at the second winding station. The first rider roll is applied continuously at the first winding station and as the packages are shifted along the transfer path to the second winding station. Both the first and second rider rolls are simultaneously applied to packages at the second winding station. During transfer the nipping force is maintained within acceptable limits by adjusting the forces being applied to the package by the first hold down mechanism and the first rider roll.

An air knife is illustrated having an adjustable orifice which includes a flat plate forming a baffle on one side while on the other side a flexible plate is secured along one edge to the circular plenum offering a free edge portion which may be drawn inwardly with respect to the flat plate to form an adjustable opposite side of the orifice.

An apparatus is illustrated for packaging narrow fabric such as webbing, belting, ribbon and the like into rolls or blocks for shipment wherein, a manually operated means which is normally out of engagement during a packaging operation may be urged from the hub side of the reel to dislodge the package for removal for doffing from the reel, and a power operated means is provided for moving a gripping flange into and out of packaging relation to the package mounting flange and hub.
