This invention deals with the next generation improvements in recommendation systems. Retailers want to grow their business and increase sales. One embodiment displays recommendations for inside sales during calls to prospects via a CRM. Another embodiment improves genomic cross-sell by summing correlations between attributes. A third embodiment improves cross-channel personalization by linking personal information, preferably via a one-way hash, to a unique customer ID. A fourth embodiment enables a common core mobile app for different retailers. A fifth embodiment identifies a shopper before purchase to provide personal recommendations while shopping. A sixth embodiment utilizes a market place with shared customers for customer acquisition. A seventh embodiment utilizes customers' preferences and characteristics and sales data to influence recommendations. The characteristics can be combined into a shopper psychographic persona to generate recommendations. An eight embodiment is a market place for customers to shop, which is used for customer acquisition for participating retailers. A ninth embodiment shows how to improve search results based upon analysis of purchase data, and correlation of clicks on search results and search terms. A tenth embodiment calculates a buy index based upon value of products purchased versus products viewed to segment shoppers to determine discounts and re-marketing. An eleventh embodiment automates the creation of a dynamic website, usually for responsive design.

Next generation improvements in recommendation systems

This invention deals with a computer-implemented method for using predictive analytics to find a second set of entries in a first array that are related to a first set of entries in the first array without directly calculating entry-to-entry similarities between entries in the first array, the method including: (a) identifying a target entry in a second array, wherein the first set of entries in the first array are linked to the target entry in the second array; (b) finding likely entries in the second array that have similarities to a target entry in the second array using a correlation; (c) finding linked entries in the first array that are linked to the likely entries found in the second array; and (d) using the linked entries found in the first array as the second set of entries in the first array.

Method for predictive analytics for finding related array entries

Media objects are transformed into active, connected objects via identifiers embedded into them or their containers. A decoding process extracts the identifier from a media object and possibly additional context information and forwards it to a server. The server, in turn, maps the identifier to an action, such as returning metadata, re-directing the request to one or more other servers, requesting information from another server to identify the media object, etc. The linking process applies to broadcast objects as well as objects transmitted over networks in streaming and compressed file formats.

Connected audio and other media objects

Signals sensed from packaging of products are processed in a distributed reader and metadata routing system to provide metadata responses to mobile application programs. A routing system registers identifiers for different content ID schema. These identifiers are encoded packaging. Mobile device application programs are equipped with reader programs to extract identifiers from packaging. Metadata responses are identified by the ID provider of the content ID schema and extracted identifiers. The metadata routing system routes metadata responses to a requesting mobile device, supporting a variety of different ID providers and mobile device applications.

Content metadata directory services

This invention deals with more improvements in recommendation systems. Retailers want to grow their business and increase sales. One embodiment creates upsell by arranging similar items by price. Another embodiment creates similar items by calculating the number of shared attributes. A final embodiment shows how recently viewed items affect cross-sell, similar and personalized recommendations to make more relevant recommendations.

More improvements in recommendation systems

Content objects are associated with metadata via content identifiers that are derived from sensed signals captured by requesting mobile devices. In response to a content based query from a mobile device, content fingerprints and extracted digital codes decoded from the sensed signals are issued to a network based router system. This system determines identification priority, metadata responses associated with different forms of identification, and priority of metadata responses to the query.

Rules driven pan ID metadata routing system and network

Audio signals are processed in a distributed reader and metadata routing system to provide metadata responses to mobile application programs. A routing system registers identifiers for different content ID schema. These identifiers are encoded in audio signals. Mobile device application programs are equipped with reader programs to extract identifiers from audio sensed by the microphone of a mobile device. Metadata responses are identified by the ID provider of the content ID schema and extracted identifiers. The metadata routing system routes metadata responses to a requesting mobile device, supporting a variety of different ID providers and mobile device applications.

A number of novel watermarking applications, and improvements to watermarking methods, are disclosed. Included are techniques for selectively incorporating promotional messages into rendered video content, monitoring whether promotional messages are rendered or skipped, permitting payment for content upon rendering rather than receipt, controlling rendering of video to include or omit adult-themed sections, confirming a person's age by reference to a watermarked identification document, and watermarking digital cinema projections.

Watermark and fingerprint systems for media

The disclosure describes a method of connecting multimedia content to a network resource. This method operates in a computer network environment. Operating in a network connected device, the method extracts an identifier from a media signal, such as from a digital watermark, perceptual hash, or other machine extracted signal identifier. It then sends the identifier to a network along with context information indicating device type information. From the network, the method receives related data associated with the media signal via the identifier. The related data is adapted to the network connected device based on the device type information. This device type information may include a display type, so that the related date may be formatted for rendering on the display type of the device. This device type information may also include a connection speed so that the related data may be optimized for the connection speed of the device.

Content sensitive connected content

Improved copy protection systems including copy once, personal computer (PC) buffer copy protection, and identifying different copy control systems are provided. A 'copy once' protection system uses memory in a recording device to remember content or physical media IDs so that the same original content or media is not copied twice. A PC buffer copy protection system determines if there is a relationship between input and output buffers on a PC, or networked PCs, to determine if the content can be copied. Different copy control systems, such as DVD systems and Conditional Access (CA) TV systems, can use different copy control watermark keys or payloads to identify which type of copy control system should be implemented.

Digital watermarking and fingerprinting applications for copy protection

The present invention relates generally to processing audio or video content. One claim recites a system comprising: a portable device comprising storage and an electronic logic processor, the electronic logic processor configured for analyzing first content stored in said storage to detect a first class of watermarking hidden therein, the first class of watermarking comprising a link between the first content and a user, the first content further comprising a second class of watermarking, the second class of watermarking providing an indication that the first content is protected, in which the second class of watermarking is more difficult to remove from content relative to the first class of watermarking; and a software module for interacting with content files, said software module including instructions to cause an electronic logic processor to control transfer of the first content file to said portable device based on detection and interpretation of the second class of watermarking. Other claims and combinations are provided as well.

Associating first and second watermarks with audio or video content

The content metadata directory system connects consumers of identified content to managed metadata databases and other digital resources. The system manages links between identifiers in content objects and metadata sources. It supports a variety of different type of content identifiers and allows for overlap among different content identification schemes. One method of associating a content object with metadata uses a combination of a content identifier and a bounding identifier to enable handling of disparate sets of content identifiers for content objects with potentially conflicting content identifiers. The method receives a content identifier for a content object from among a set of content identifiers and provides a unique bounding identifier for the set of content identifiers. This unique bounding identifier is used in combination with the content identifier to form a globally unique identifier for the content object. This globally unique identifier is associated with a metadata source, which enables routing of a user to the metadata source.

A method of associating a content object with metadata uses a combination of a content identifier and a bounding identifier to enable handling of disparate sets of content identifiers for content objects with potentially conflicting content identifiers. The method receives a content identifier for a content object from among a set of content identifiers. It provides a unique bounding identifier for the set of content identifiers. This unique bounding identifier is used in combination with the content identifier to form a globally unique identifier for the content object. This globally unique identifier is associated with a metadata source, which enables routing of a user to the metadata source.

The present invention provides methods to provide or establish links, web addresses or web content with media (e.g., audio, videos or imagery). In one implementation, we provide a method comprising: upon receipt of a content identifier associated with media, initiating a time-limited auction for a right to associated a link or website with the content identifier; receiving additional bids for the right; and at a conclusion of a predetermined time associated with the time-limited auction, awarding the right to associate a link or website with the content identifier. In another implementation we provide a method including awarding a right to provide or host web content; and monitoring provided or hosted web content to ensure that non-advertising content is maintained at or above a predetermined level. In yet another implementation, we provide a method including: receiving a content identifier associated with media; determining whether web content exists that is associated with the content identifier; if the web content exists, providing the web content or a pointer to the web content; and if web content does not exist, allowing a user who provided the content identifier to provide or host web content.
