The present disclosure provides compositions and methods for enhancing oil recovery and protein recovery from a product from a corn fermentation process stream, such as corn syrup. Compositions generally include a product from a corn fermentation stream and an additive including at least one alkylphenol ethoxylate formaldehyde resin, at least one sodium alkyl sulfate, or a blend of at least one anionic surfactant with at least one non-ionic surfactant in a weight ratio of the at least one nonionic surfactant to the at least one anionic surfactant in a range from about 1:20 to about 20:1. Methods combine such an additive with the product from a corn fermentation stream to produce a mixture which is preferably heated and centrifuged to separate oil and protein from the product.

Additives and use thereof in corn fermentation process streams and other bioprocesses

Provided herein is a method of neutralizing cotton seeds, including the steps of providing delinted cotton seeds having a pH of less than about 3.3, and applying an alkyl amine to the delinted cotton seeds to produce neutralized delinted cotton seeds having a pH of greater than about 3.5.

Method of neutralizing cotton seeds

A corn-to-ethanol production process is disclosed. The process includes the steps of dry-milling corn kernels to form a corn flour; combining the corn flour with water to form a mash; extracting corn oil from the mash; fermenting the mash thereby producing beer and carbon dioxide; distilling the beer to produce ethanol and whole stillage; and processing the whole stillage to produce wet distiller's grains with solubles (WDGS) and/or dried distiller's grains with solubles (DDGS). The step of extracting corn oil from the mash includes the sub steps of: optionally wet-milling the mash; separating the mash to produce a light phase and a heavy phase; adding an alkanesulfonic acid to the light phase; extracting corn oil from the light phase; and combining the light phase having the corn oil extracted therefrom with the heavy phase to reform the mash.

Preparation of ethanol from corn

A dry-milling ethanol process includes the steps of: dry-milling corn kernels to form a corn flour; combining the corn flour with water to form a mash; fermenting the mash thereby producing beer and carbon dioxide; adding an alkanesulfonic acid to the beer in an amount sufficient to adjust the pH to a range of from about 3 to about 5; distilling the beer to produce ethanol and whole stillage; and processing the whole stillage to produce wet distiller's grains with solubles and/or dried distiller's grains with solubles.

Dry-milling ethanol process

A dry-milling process for the production of dried distiller's grains with solubles ('DDGS') includes the steps of dry-milling corn kernels to form a corn flour comprising corn fiber; combining the corn flour with water to form a mash; separating the corn fiber from the mash; treating the separated corn fiber with a composition; combining the treated corn fiber with the mash having the corn fiber separated therefrom to form a slurry; fermenting the slurry to produce beer and carbon dioxide; distilling the beer to produce ethanol and whole stillage; and processing the whole stillage to produce DDGS. The composition includes an alkanesulfonic acid, water, an enzyme, and optionally a surfactant.

Dry-milling process

An aminocarboxylic acid is produced from a solution that includes an aminocarboxylate and a solvent. A method of producing the aminocarboxylic acid comprises the step of combining a sulfonic acid and the solution comprising the aminocarboxylate and the solvent to produce a composition. An example of the aminocarboxylate is a salt of methylglycine diacetic acid (MGDA). An example of the sulfonic acid is methane sulfonic acid (MSA). The composition comprises the aminocarboxylic acid. The method further comprises the step of isolating the aminocarboxylic acid from the composition.

Method of producing an aminocarboxylic acid

A method of delinting cotton seeds with an alkanesulfonic acid comprises the steps of applying the alkanesulfonic acid to surfaces of linted cotton seeds, optionally heating the linted cotton seeds, and applying mechanical force to the surfaces of the linted cotton seeds. A composition for delinting cotton seeds comprises an alkanesulfonic acid (e.g. methanesulfonic acid (MSA)), a surfactant, and water.

Method of delinting cotton seeds

A method of digesting lignocellulosic material includes the steps of providing the lignocellulosic material and a caustic composition having a pH of at least about 10. The caustic composition includes water, an alkaline- or alkaline earth-metal hydroxide, and up to about 1 percent by weight based on a total weight of the composition of a branched digestion additive. The branched digestion additive has the structure: wherein A is at least one alkyleneoxy group and each alkyleneoxy group has from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, n is 0 or 1, B is a branched aliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 8 to 15 carbon atoms, X is H or B-0-(A), and each m is independently an average value from 3 to 30, and wherein the caustic composition has a Draves Wetting Time of less than 100 seconds as determined using ASTM D2281. 

Method of digesting lignocellulosic material

A method of dissolving and/or inhibiting the deposition of scale on a surface of a system comprises the step of bringing the surface of the system into contact with a composition. The composition can comprise from about 3 to about 15 parts by weight of a chelating component. The chelating component is selected from the group of MGDA, NTA, HEDTA, GLDA, EDTA, DTPA, and mixtures thereof. The composition can further comprise from about 3 to about 15 parts by weight of an acidic component, which is different than the chelating component. The composition can further comprise at least about 60 parts by weight of water. Each of the parts by weight ranges above are based on 100 parts by weight of the composition. The composition may further comprise a surfactant component and/or a corrosion inhibitor.
