A process for producing a bio-inactive and shelf stable biomass matter derived from bioactive biomass feedstock includes processes that can be performed in an effective way with equipment that does not require large expenditures. The biomass feedstock may be dewatered and then stabilized to prevent degradation. The stabilized biomass may then be back blended with a dried back blending biomass having a water concentration of less than 10% and a particle size that produces back blended biomass that can be effectively processed by controlled agitation drying wherein the thickness is maintained at less than 100 mm while an airflow is formed over the back blended biomass and shear mechanical energy is imparted. The entire process may be performed in less than 12 hours to produce a shelf-stable dried biomass.

Process for producing a bio-inactive and shelf stable biomass matter derived from bioactive biomass feedstock

Processes for separating and isolating proteins and fats from biomass matter utilizes a pH adjustment of a slurry. The biomass feedstock is derived from commingled animal and/or plant-based streams with highly variable concentrations of fat, proteins and impurities present in the biomass. A wide range of pH adjustment spanning highly acid to highly basic has been shown to be effective at separating the commingled streams into their constituent products. The processes do not rely on the proteins being solubilized into the solution, but rather solubilizing the fat portion, physically separating the constituents and precipitating the fat in a downstream process, resulting in two value streams: a highly digestible protein component and a fat component. The protein component has nutritional value as companion pet, animal and aquaculture feed ingredient and the fat component has value as standalone or blended solid or liquid biofuels, greases or specialty chemicals.

A method and system for the treatment of a biomass stream to separate organic extracts/biomolecules (such as proteins, lipids and/or carotenoids) from the biomass stream, wherein the water content of the biomass stream is decreased by bringing the biomass stream into contact with a compressed liquefied gas solvent, to create a low-water content biomass stream and introducing the low-water content biomass stream to an extraction apparatus that recovers one or more organic products with little or no measurable solvent residue.

Continuous system and process for treating a low-water biomass stream with liquefied-gas solvent to separate and recover organic products

A pretreatment for use with systems and methods for extracting and separating a bio-molecule, such as a lipid and/or a protein, from a biomass includes the step of contacting the biomass with a drying gas to substantially dewater the biomass to 20% water content by mass or less. Such pretreated biomass, mixed with one or more compressed liquefied gas solvents, may then be introduced into individual filter cells in a rotary pressure filter to separate lipids from proteins.
