Embodiments relate to generation of timed text in web video. In an embodiment, a computer-implemented method generates timed text for online video. In the method, a request to play a timed text track of a video incorporated into a web video service is received from a client computing device. Prior to receipt of the request, audio of the video is processed to determine intermediate timed text data. The intermediate timed text data lacks a complete text transcription of the audio, but includes data to enable the complete text transcription to be generated when playing the video. In response to receipt of the request, a text transcription of the audio is determined using the intermediate data with an automated speech-to-text algorithm. Finally, the text transcription of the audio is sent to the client computing device for display along with the video.

Generation of timed text using speech-to-text technology and applications thereof

This invention relates to translating timed text in web video. In a first embodiment, a method automatically translates timed text for web video. The method includes receiving a request identifying a web video from a client. In response to the request, a timed text track for the web video is retrieved from a timed text database. Each timed text track in the timed text database specifies text to display at particular times in a video. Text from the timed text track is automatically translated to a target language. Finally, the translated text is sent to the client to display with the web video.

System and method for translating timed text in web video

This invention relates to systems and methods for enabling users to create, to edit and to rate online video timed text over the web. A system embodiment of this invention includes a permission requester that enables a first user to send a permission request. The permission request requests permission from a second user to create a timed text track for a video. A permission granter enables the second user to send a permission response according to the permission request from the first user. A timed text editor enables the first user to create a timed text track for the video based on the response to the permission request and upload the timed text track to a server.

Enabling users to create, to edit and/or to rate online video captions over the web

Cycling power in a computer to clear hang-up conditions may include disabling low voltage DC signals between an output of a standby DC power supply and standby-powered circuits in response to a power cycle request. In response to a disable signal, a power cycle module (PCM) may disable standby power being supplied to standby circuits in a computer, server, or router, for example. In addition, the PCM may disable power to main circuits by, for example, generating logic-level control signals to the power supply, or by opening a series-connected switch through which main current flows. In response to a re-enable signal, the PCM may re-enable the supply of standby and/or main power to a computer.

Controlled power cycling in computing devices

Intelligent paging services provided by a GSM-based mobile communication network are employed in a mobile-based client-server system to provide automatic notification of a mobile client station of the type and quantity of information awaiting delivery to a mobile client station at a centralized server, so that the client station may then establish a communication link to receive the information, without otherwise requiring a costly polling scheme. In a preferred embodiment, the server evaluates received or otherwise generated information that is intended for a respective client station to determine whether the information is of a selected type and/or quantity requiring notification of the client station. If so, the server transmits a message (e.g., alpha-numeric) from a transceiver associated with the server to a transceiver associated with the client station, the message indicating the type and quantity of information awaiting delivery to the client station. The respective client station evaluates the received message and, if the specified information type and quantity justify the time and expense, establishes a log-on connection with the server via the respective client station and server transceivers in order to receive the information and, if expedient, conduct further information exchanges.

Data communication protocols for a mobile-based client-server system over a wireless network

A mobile-based client-server system architecture incorporates two specialized software layers&mdash;a specialized &ldquo;proxy&rdquo; layer that resides on a mobile client station, and a &ldquo;web agent&rdquo; layer that resides on a server. A conventional web browser application residing on a mobile client station is configured to point to the proxy layer, which captures HTTP information request messages that are transmitted to, and received from, the web browser. The HTTP request messages are packed by the proxy layer within a selected communication transmission format for upstream transmission over a communication network, such as a wireless network. At the server, the web agent layer recovers the original, (i.e., &ldquo;raw&rdquo;) HTTP request messages, which are then sent to an appropriate web server for further processing. Responsive HTTP messages transmitted from a respective web server are captured by the web agent layer, which packs the responsive messages within the selected communication transmission format for transmission to the client station. At the client station, the proxy layer recovers the raw HTTP response messages, which are then forwarded to the web browser for processing. The respective proxy and web agent layers preferably employ respective memory caches and have intelligent filtering capabilities, thereby reducing redundant or otherwise unwanted message transmission.
