A hanger system may include a hanger bracket arm and a hanger bracket leg in fixed relationship. The hanger bracket arm and hanger bracket leg each include a front surface and a rear surface. The hanger bracket arm and the hanger bracket leg may be formed as a single unit. At least a portion of the rear surface of the hanger bracket arm may be coextensive with at least a portion of the rear surface of the hanger bracket leg. The hanger bracket arm upper edge may comprise a first stop at a distal end and a second stop at a proximal end. At least a portion of the front surface of the hanger bracket arm may be coextensive with at least a portion of the front surface of the hanger bracket leg.

Hanger, system and method

The disclosure relates to methods and devices for monitoring e.g., fatigue levels by measuring a subject's body core temperature. In one embodiment, microwave radiometry is used to measure such core temperature.

Devices and methods for exercise monitoring

Heat treatment apparatus for inactivating viruses in blood products includes a series of tubing coils with connectors at the opposite ends of the series for connecting the tubing to a blood product source and a blood product destination. The apparatus also includes a microwave heating chamber arranged to receive the first coil of the series and a cooling chamber adapted to receive the second coil of the series. Microwave energy is supplied to the heating chamber for heating the blood product as it flows along the first coil from an initial temperature to an elevated temperature and the cooling chamber is cooled so that the blood product in the second coil is cooled to a selected temperature appreciably below the elevated temperature. A radiometer circuit is provided for monitoring the temperatures of the blood product in the first and second coils to produce first and second temperature signals in response thereto. A controller responds to these temperature signals by controlling the energy producing means to impart a selected time/temperature profile to the blood product flowing through the tubing and to deliver that product at a selected delivery temperature. A third coil and a second heating chamber may be provided to heat the blood product to the delivery temperature following the cooling thereof.

Heat treatment for viral inactivation

Microwave heating apparatus for heating fluid or tissue includes an elongated catheter for placement adjacent to high/dielectric high loss organic fluid or tissue in a patient. The catheter has a distal end and a proximal end and includes an antenna adjacent to the distal end and a cable having one end connected to the antenna and a second end. A transmitter provides a transmitter signal capable of heating the fluid or tissue and a first receiver receives a first signal indicative of thermal radiation from a first depth in the fluid or tissue, producing a first output signal in response thereto. There is also a second receiver for receiving a second signal indicative of thermal radiation from a second depth in the fluid or tissue, producing a second output signal in and response thereto. The apparatus also includes active and passive diplexers connected in series between the transmitter and the second end of the cable. A controller controls the active diplexer so that when the transmitter is transmitting, the first signal is coupled to the passive diplexer but not to the second receiver and when the transmitter is not transmitting, a second signal from the passive diplexer is coupled to the second receiver but not to the transmitter. During operation of the apparatus, the passive diplexer couples the transmitter signal only to the antenna while coupling a first signal from the antenna only to the first receiver so that the apparatus can heat the fluid or tissue and determine the actual temperatures of the fluid or tissue at two different depths.

Dual frequency microwave heating apparatus

A dual mode transurethral warming apparatus particularly adapted to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia includes a urethral catheter dimensioned for insertia through the urethra. The catheter includes an elongated flexible tube having a plurality of longitudinal lumens extending between the ends of the tube. A coaxial cable extends along one of the lumens to an antenna in the form of a multi-turn helical winding wound around the outside of the tube. A first connector connects one of the cable conductors to one end of the winding and a second connector connects the other cable conductor to the other end of the winding so that the antenna formed by the winding is larger in diameter than the cable, and all of the lumens are located within the winding. The cable is connected to a control and display unit which includes a transmitter which provides electromagnetic energy via the cable to the antenna so that the antenna generates an electromagnetic field sufficient to treat tissue adjacent the antenna. The same antenna also detects thermal energy emitted by the tissue thereby developing an electrical signal which is fed via the cable to a receiver in the form of a radiometer in the control and display unit. The cable is connected to the transmitter and receiver by way of a diplexer which separates the transmitter and receiver signal frequencies allowing the use of the common coaxial cable and antenna for both heating the tissue and sensing the actual temperature of the tissue. Preferably, the catheter includes an inflatable balloon at the distal end of the tube, the balloon being inflated by flowing an inflation fluid to the balloon via one of the lumens in the tube. Other working lumens may be included in the tube for providing drainage and for coolant circulation to cool the exterior surfaces of the catheter.

Dual mode transurethral microwave warming apparatus

Intracorporeal warming apparatus includes a catheter for placement in a patient, the catheter having a distal end and a proximal end. An antenna lies adjacent to the distal end of the catheter and a cable having one end connected to the antenna extends from the proximal end of the catheter. A transmitter transmits a first signal of a first frequency capable of heating blood or tissue and a receiver receives a second signal of a second frequency which is indicative of thermal radiation, the receiver producing an output signal in response thereto. A diplexer connects the proximal end of the cable to the transmitter and receiver so as to couple the first signal from the transmitter only to the antenna and the second signal from the antenna only to the receiver so that the apparatus can simultaneously heat the blood or tissue and determine the actual temperature of that material. Preferably also, the catheter includes an expandable stand-off device adjacent to the antenna which can be expanded to properly position the catheter when in use. There is also provision for indicating the condition of the stand-off device, i.e., open or closed, before the apparatus is activated.

Intracorporeal microwave warming method and apparatus

Infusate warming apparatus comprises a housing defining an internal cavity. A lossy asymmetric transmission line is situated in the housing which transmission line includes an elongated electrical conductor having opposite ends and a conduit for conducting infusate which is highly absorptive to electromagnetic energy of a first frequency through the housing in close proximity to the conductor. A connector extends into the housing for coupling an external electromagnetic signal of the first frequency to one end of the conductor so as to subject the infusate to an energy field which heats the infusate. A temperature sensor for sensing the infusate temperature and controlling the signal to maintain a constant infusate delivering temperature is also disclosed.

Apparatus for controlledly warming low flow rate infusates

Microwave tumor detection apparatus includes a probe having a working end arranged to contact tissue. Positioned in the probe is at least one rectangular waveguide each waveguide having an aperture at the working end of the probe. The waveguides constitute antennas tuned to receive microwave radiation emitted by the tissue opposite the working end of the probe. Each waveguide is coupled electrically and mechanically to a dedicated radiometer in the probe for detecting the temperature of tissue opposite that waveguide. These radiometers have thermally conductive casings which are mounted to a common heat sink and are insulated so that all of the radiometers have a uniform thermal distribution. Also, a thin thermally insulating interface pad may be located between the working end of the probe and the tissue contacted by the probe to prevent such contact from causing changes in the surface temperature of the tissue. A method of detecting breast tumors is also disclosed.

Microwave detection of tumors, particularly breast tumors

A fluid flow cartridge for seating in an opening into a microwave heating cavity comprises a tubing support having an electrically conductive surface dimensioned to substantially close that opening and an elongated bobbin portion projecting from that surface. The cartridge also includes a selected length of tubing wound around the bobbin portion to form a coil, opposite end segments of the tubing extending from the coil through the conductive support surface and away from said support. Preferably, the coil has straight tubing segments on opposite sides of the coil spaced apart one quarter wavelength or integral multiple thereof at the operating frequency of the heating cavity.

Cartridge for in-line microwave warming apparatus

Microwave heating apparatus for fixating tissue comprises an electrically conductive waveguide structure having opposite first and second walls each of which has opposite first and second ends and a longitudinal centerline. A body of non-magnetic dielectric material inside the waveguide structure bridges the first and second walls preferably at their centerlines. A pocket extends through a wall of the waveguide structure into the body and a tissue holder containing contents, namely a tissue sample and a fixation solution, is arranged to be received in the pocket. The dielectric constant of the body is selected to closely match the composite dielectric constant of the tissue holder and its contents so that when microwave power is delivered into the waveguide structure for heating a succession of samples, variations in the dielectric properties of the different samples will not significantly affect the tuning of the waveguide structure. A radiometric sensor may be coupled to the waveguide structure so that the temperature of the tissue sample may be monitored non-invasively for temperature control and display purposes.

Microwave heating apparatus for rapid tissue fixation

Microwave tumor detection apparatus includes a probe having a working end arranged to contact tissue. Positioned in the probe is a plurality of rectangular waveguides arranged in columns and rows such that each waveguide has an aperture at the working end of the probe that is oriented substantially perpendicular to the aperture of the waveguide in any adjacent column and row of the array. The waveguides constitute antennas tuned to receive microwave radiation emitted by the tissue opposite the working end of the probe. The waveguides are coupled electrically and mechanically to dedicated radiometers in the probe for detecting the temperatures of tissue opposite the waveguides. These radiometers have thermally conductive casings which are mounted to a common heat sink and are insulated so that all of the radiometers have a uniform thermal distribution. Also, a thin thermally insulating interface pad may be located between the working end of the probe and the tissue contacted by the probe to prevent such contact from causing changes in the surface temperature of the tissue. A method of detecting breast tumors is also disclosed.

Microwave heating apparatus for warming low flow rate infusates includes an electrically conductive housing defining an elongated heating cavity and a printed circuit board which separates the cavity lengthwise into first and second cavity sections. The circuit board includes a substrate which provides a fluid-tight divider between the two cavity sections and a meandering conductor run which extends along the substrate.

Microwave apparatus for warming low flow rate infusates

A microwave apparatus for warming of a liquid such as blood or IV fluids in which the warming occurs in-line by means of a microwave heating cavity having a source of microwave energy coupled thereto. A support element in the form of a bobbin forms an assembly with an IV tube wound about the bobbin. This tubing-bobbin assembly is inserted into the microwave heating cavity. A non-invasive, non-perturbing microwave temperature monitor is provided coupled to the microwave heating cavity for monitoring the temperature of liquid flowing in the IV tube. Controls are provided including a desired operating selector for combining signals representative of, not only cavity temperature, but also inlet and outlet temperatures to control the power level of microwave energy delivered to the heating cavity.

In-line microwave warming apparatus

A helical antenna, which is matched to the desired microwave frequency of 915 MHz, comprises a helix having a linear length which is in the range of 74 to 112 mm or a non-zero integer multiple thereof, and which delivers microwave energy in an optimal heating pattern with little reflected power.
