Described herein are textile fiber-working units and methods for preparing them. These units have at least one layer made of a mixture of a polyamide, a crosslinked acrylonitrilebutadiene rubber, a plasticizer and a crosslinking agent. This layer forms a ring and has an outer fiber-working surface which forms an endless path for processing fibers. The units are made by combining the ingredients to form a uniform blend which is then worked into a shape, heated to crosslink the rubber, and then producing the fiber-working unit using appropriate finishing techniques such as cutting, grinding, and polishing.

Textile fiber-working units and compositions for their fiber-working

A water reaction synthesis with polyoxyethylene diol, diisocyanate and dibutyltin bis lauryl mercaptide produces a high molecular weight thermoplastic polyurethane-urea linear polymer with surface resistivity 10.sup.11 -10.sup.6 ohm/sq. Thermoplastic and/or elastomeric antistatic compositions containing other melt processable polymers and/or filler, and the polymer exhibit permanent protection. Antistatic protection can be increased when the polymer complexes with a metal salt such as lithium chloride, or lithium acetate. The composition is useful in the manufacture of antistatic floor coverings and textile texturing and drafting elements such as cots and aprons.

Conductive polyurethane-urea/polyethylene oxide polymer

The adhesive system of the present invention is suitable for use in adhering an incompatible ink system to a polymeric film; particularly, adhering a lithographic ink or electrographic toner bonded to a floor covering. The polymeric sheet and incompatible ink have a primer layer interposed between them or the ink layer is encapsulated between the two primer layers. The primer may be solvent based or aqueous based and preferably includes a benzene derivative, ketone, acetate or nitroparaffin solvent or film former. The primer is compatible with the polymeric sheet and diffuses into the ink layer. The preferred solvent or film former includes methyl isobutyl ketone, methyl ethyl ketone, n-propyl acetate, isopropyl acetate, or N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone. The primer also includes a polyvinyl resin, acrylic resin, polyurethane resin or polyester resin, and optionally a pigment. To deter dot distortion of the ink, the primer should have a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) of at least about 60.degree. C., and preferably at least about 100.degree. C.

Polymeric sheet having an incompatible ink permanently bonded thereto

Quaternary ammonium salt antistatic agents having an organic chain of ten to twenty-five atoms plasticize the vinyl resin of a static charge dissipative surface covering. Such antistatic agents minimize migration and therefore retain their charge dissipative properties for a longer period of time. The class of plasticizing quaternary ammonium salt antistatic agents includes derivatives of unsaturated organic acids and alkyl ethers having a chain length of six to eighteen carbon atoms and a hydroxyl functionality.

Disclosed are flocced mineral materials which may be utilized to prepare high temperature resistant, water resistant articles. These materials are prepared by utilizing, as a starting material, a gellable layered swelled silicate that has an average charge per structural unit that ranges from about -0.4 to -1 and which contains interstitial cations which promote swelling with a source of at least one species of multiamine derived cations.

Layered silicates and water-resistant articles made therefrom

A surface covering product having static dissipative electrical properties comprises a consolidated agglomeration of individual chips of polymeric material and wherein at least a portion of said individual chips contain an antistatic agent. A second portion of individual chips contain no antistatic agent or a reduced amount of antistatic agent.

Charge dissipative floor tiles

A composition is described which is prepared so that it has a low electrical resistivity so that it can be used in electrostatic discharge operations. The composition includes carbon-coated fibers. The fiber is characterized in that it is a Lewis base while the carbon powder is a Lewis acid. The carbon-coated fiber is held together with a binder (such as a latex or resin). The binder may be either neutral or acidic. A resin can also be used to prepare rigid electrostatic discharge objects. When a resin is used, the resin should also be neutral and preferably, is acidic.

Electrically conductive carbon-coated fibers

Flocced 2:1 layered silicates and water-resistant articles made therefrom

Combining a carboxylated acrylic latex binder/surfactant/metal salt premix with a polymer binder/LiCl PEO complex/plasticizer premix produces a storage stable, conductive floor polish composition. Coated on a floor, the composition provides high gloss with a surface resistivity of 10.sup.6 ohm/sq. compared to present commercial antistatic floor polishes with a surface resistivity of 10.sup.9 ohm/sq.

A surface covering product having static dissipative electrical properties is shown, which surface covering product comprises a consolidated agglomeration of individual chips of polymeric material and wherein at least a portion of said individual chips contain an antistatic agent.

Disclosed are compositions of flocced mineral materials combined with fibers and/or binders. These compositions may be utilized to prepare high temperature resistant, water resistant articles. These materials are prepared by embedding a fabric in a layered inorganic silicate matrix that has an average charge per structural unit that ranges from about -0.4 to -1 and which contains at least some interstitial cations that are selected from the group consisting of guanidine and multiamine derived cations.
