Provided is a high-pressure fluid chromatography system using interior-to-exterior column pressure equalization, and components comprising such a system, including a pressure equalizing vessel which allows for the use of an inner chromatography column that is only able to withstand an interior-to-exterior pressure differential of up to 200 psi.

A gas-liquid separator system that can effectively and efficiently separate liquid from a streaming mixture having a liquid portion and a gas portion. The gas-liquid separator may be used in supercritical fluid chromatography application where an analyte is separated from a carrier gas, such as carbon dioxide. A streaming mixture is dispensed into a separation chamber formed by a spindle shaft configured inside of a shroud cavity. The shroud cavity has a plurality of concave channels along the inner surface and extend down to an outlet end. The concave channels create pressure variations that promote the liquid portion to condense onto the inner surface of the shroud and flow down to the exhaust port. A spherical collection portion is configured on the outlet of the shroud and the condensed liquid flows thereover and down along a cone portion and off the cone tip.

Gas-liquid separator assembly

Provided is a chiller and system that may be utilized in a supercritical fluid chromatography method, wherein a non-polar solvent may replace a portion or all of a polar solvent for the purpose of separating or extracting desired sample molecules from a combined sample/solvent stream. The system may reduce the amount of polar solvent necessary for chromatographic separation and/or extraction of desired samples. The system may incorporate a supercritical fluid chiller, a supercritical fluid pressure-equalizing vessel and a supercritical fluid cyclonic separator. The supercritical fluid chiller allows for efficient and consistent pumping of liquid-phase gases employing off-the-shelf HPLC pumps. The pressure equalizing vessel allows the use of off-the-shelf HPLC column cartridges. The system may further incorporate the use of one or more disposable cartridges containing silica gel or other suitable medium. The system may also utilize an open loop cooling circuit using fluids with a positive Joule-Thomson coefficient.

The method and system are designed to eliminate or reduce the amount of polar solvent necessary for chromatographic separation and/or extraction of desired samples to less than or equal to twenty percent polar solvent within the total volume concentration of the total solvents used, and the technique may include one or more of a supercritical fluid chiller, a supercritical fluid pressure-equalizing vessel, and a supercritical fluid cyclonic separator. The supercritical fluid chiller and the use of the chiller allow efficient and consistent pumping of liquid-phase gases employing off-the-shelf HPLC pumps in the supercritical chromatography system using liquid-phase gas mobile phase. The pressure equalizing vessel allows the use of off the shelf HPLC column cartridges in the supercritical chromatography system. The cyclonic separator efficiently and effectively allows for separation of sample molecules from a liquid phase or gas phase stream of a supercritical fluid. The technique may further incorporate the use of one or more disposable cartridges containing silica gel or other suitable medium for use as a chromatographic separation column. The technique may also utilize an open loop cooling circuit using fluids with a positive Joule-Thompson coefficient.

An attractive dense compact and mounding growth habit is displayed. The stems that bear flowers are substantially upright. The 'Novaverpin' parent displays a dissimilar light pink inflorescence coloration. The plant is well suited for providing attractive ornamentation in the landscape.

A precision high-pressure control assembly for supercritical fluids comprises a continuous flow system having a pressure control loop which includes a source of fluid communicating with a piston driven pump. A pressure sensor monitors the pressure of the supercritical fluid in the outlet line of the pump. A pressure controller has an input for receiving a signal relating to the pressure sent by the pressure sensor and the pressure controller yields an electronic output signal to an electropneumatic regulator. A source of air communicates with the electropneumatic regulator to provide pressurized regulated driver air directed to the pump. The electropneumatic regulator controls the regulated driver air pressure of the pump in accordance with the signal received from the pressure controller. The piston head of the pump is in a cryogenic chamber to minimize flash and cavitation.

Precision high pressure control assembly

A precision high-pressure control assembly for supercritical fluids comprises a continuous flow system having a pressure control loop which includes a source of fluid communicating with a pump. A pressure sensor monitors the pressure of the supercritical fluid in the outlet line of the pump. A pressure controller has an input for receiving a signal relating to the pressure sent by the pressure sensor and the pressure controller yields an electronic output signal to an electropneumatic regulator. A source of air communicates with the electropneumatic regulator to provide pressurized regulated driver air directed to the pump. The electropneumatic regulator controls the regulated driver air pressure of the pump in accordance with the signal received from the pressure controller.
