Exemplary embodiments disclose a computer-implemented method for enabling an end-user to dynamically create a hot spot on a user interface (UI) of information resource without the end-user modifying underlying code of the UI. Aspects of the exemplary embodiment include responsive to the end-user activating a hot spot creation component, receiving a designation from the end-user of a location of the hot spot and a size of the hot spot within the UI; receiving from the end-user an assignment of a user gesture to the hot spot; receiving from the end-user an assignment of an action to the hot spot; and responsive to a detection of the user gesture on the hot spot, invoking the action assigned to the hot spot.

Dynamic creation of user interface hot spots

A method and system are disclosed for reporting incidents occurring during operation of a distributed computing environment including a multitude of hardware and software resources. The method comprises the steps of whenever a defined incident occurs, generating a respective one incident report; and keeping with each incident report, selected information relating to the incident. Preferably, this information that is kept with the incident report identifies (i) selected resources associated with the defined incident, and status of said selected resources at the time of the defined incident, (ii) dependencies among said selected resources at the time of the defined incident, and (iii) service level agreements and operating level agreements impacted by the defined incident.

Displaying data from a data set in a tree map visualization is provided by prioritizing the data in the data set so as to associate a priority with respective elements of the data in the data set. A tree map visualization is generated based on the data set where a location of bounding boxes in the tree map is based on the priority associated with the corresponding element. Tree maps having locations of bounding boxes that are based on a priority associated with the bounding boxes are also provided.

An audible indicator such as an audio tone is associated with the importance of data elements displayed on a visual display screen of data processing apparatus such as a personal computer or work station. At least one characteristic of the audible indicator, for example its pitch or frequence of a tone, is associated with the importance of the data elements. When a user selects a particular date element on the screen, for example using a computer mouse, the audible indicator conveys the importance of the selected data element to the user. This enables visually impaired users to readily locate important data elements on a display screen without reading the entire screen using a screen reader.

Data from a data set is displayed as a tree map visualization by identifying data elements in the data set to be highlighted and generating a tree map visualization based on the data set where a location of bounding boxes corresponding to the identified data elements have greater color saturation in comparison to other bounding boxes.

Methods, systems and computer program products for use of color saturation to highlight items in a tree map visualization

Data from a first data set utilized in generating a first tree map visualization is displayed by filtering the first data set so as to provide a second data set having a reduced amount of data relative to the first data set. A second tree map visualization is generated based on the second data set.
