A machine for continuously forming heat-reflective blanks is provided. The heat-reflective blanks each include a blank of sheet material and a thermal film patch coupled to the blank. The machine includes an intake station configured to align a first blank of sheet material and a second blank of sheet material for application of a first thermal film patch and a second thermal film patch, respectively. The intake station is further configured to maintain a spacing between the first blank and the second blank. The intake station includes adjustable hold-down bars for maintaining an alignment and the spacing of the first and second blanks. The machine also includes an applicator station configured to apply the first and second thermal film patches to the first and second blanks, respectively, to form a first heat-reflective blank and a second heat-reflective blank, and an ejection station configured to eject the heat-reflective blanks.

A blank of foldable sheet material for forming a container is provided. The blank includes a bottom panel, a top panel, and a set of vent panels configured to form at least one venting assembly positioned on the top panel of the container.

Blank and methods of constructing a ventilated container from the blank

A bulk bin assembly formed from a plurality of blanks material is provided. The bulk bin assembly includes a container portion including a plurality of side walls, wherein at least one side wall has a ventilation opening defined therein. The bulk bin assembly further includes a ventilation insert including a plurality of side panels and at least one insert opening defined in at least one side panel. The ventilation insert is positioned within a cavity of the container portion such that an air flow channel defined by the plurality of side panels is in air flow communication with the ventilation opening of the container portion to permit ambient air to flow through the ventilation opening and through the insert opening.

Machine and method for forming a heat-reflective blank and container

A method of making a texture-coated and/or insulation coated container from a flat paperboard blank in which a heat-hardenable liquid polymeric binder texturizing and/or insulating agent coating mixture is applied to one surface of the blank in a pattern of covered and open areas. This coating mixture is subjected to heat to cure the polymeric binder and expand the texturizing and/or insulating agent, optionally treated with moisture, and optionally heated to form the blank into the shape of a container, and the container produced by this method. The containers such as cups, plates, etc., are useful in food service. These containers have a coefficient of static friction which is about 0.2 to 2.0 and over and a kinetic coefficient of friction which is about 0.22 to 1.5.

Paperboard containers having improved bulk insulation properties

A point-of-purchase ('POP') display employing RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) technology for inventory control is provided. The POP is preferably fabricated from paper, paperboard and/or corrugated paperboard material, and incorporates one or more shelves and/or cover layers. An RF antenna structure is applied to the surfaces of, or built into, the one or more shelves and/or cover layers. Suitable RF transmitter/receiver circuitry may also be built into the POP, or the POP may simply have suitable connections built in, to permit such transceiver apparatus to be plugged into the POP. The transceiver circuitry is connected in any suitable manner to an inventory control computer, such as the retail store's computer. Each article that is to be displayed in the POP is provided with an RFID tag. Removal of an article from the POP, results in a signal being transmitted to the inventory control computer, corresponding to the removal of the article from the POP, and corresponding adjustment of the inventory records in the inventory control computer.

The apparatus includes a corrugated paperboard feed device configured to supply a quantity of corrugated paperboard, an antenna attach device configured to couple an antenna to the corrugated paperboard, a curing device configured to provide curing energy to the antenna to at least one of dry the antenna and facilitate optimizing an electrical conductivity of the antenna, and an attach mechanism configured to couple a radio frequency identification circuit to the antenna.

Methods and apparatus for testing the health of each of a plurality of RFID transponders is provided. The apparatus includes an antenna support assembly including an antenna support body and an antenna coupled to a surface of the antenna support body, the antenna including at least a receiver portion and a connection portion. The apparatus also includes a holder coupled to the antenna support body configured to retain the antenna support proximate a path of a plurality of transponders.

Methods and systems for in-line RFID transponder testing

An improved paperboard has been bulk enhanced by retaining a substantial portion of bulk-enhanced additives including expandable microspheres in a suitable distribution within the paperboard. The cellulosic paperboard web has an overall fiber weight (w) of at least 40 lbs. per 3000 square feet and, at a fiber density of 3, 4.5, 6.5, 7, 8.3, and 9 pounds per 3000 square foot ream at a fiberboard thickness of 0.001 inches, has a GM Taber stiffness of at least about 0.00246 wgrams-centimeter/fiber mat density, and a GM tensile stiffness of at least about 615+13.18 w pounds per inch. The high retention of the bulk enhancing additives is believed to result from the incorporation of suitable retention aids. The resulting paperboard has better GM Taber stiffness values and GM tensile stiffness than prior art paperboards. The paperboard also has increased strain to failure and is able to be formed into suitable paperboard containers without loss of integrity. The resulting containers have increased hold times when they contain hot or cold food or drink.

Coated paperboards and paperboard containers having improved tactile and bulk insulation properties

Bulk enhanced paperboard and shaped products made therefrom

An apparatus for applying a high solids coating to a surface of a base product is provided. The apparatus includes a rotatable coating roll that opposes a feeding roll. The rolls combine to define a nip portion through which a base product is passed. A cleaning blade is disposed in contact with the coating roll and a calendar box is disposed adjacent the surface of the coating roll.

Apparatus for producing coated base products

A method of applying a coating to a surface of a base product that includes providing a calender stack that includes a rotatable king roll and a feeding roll is provided. The king roll is opposed to the feeding roll to define a nip portion between the rolls. A cleaning blade is provided and placed in contact with the king roll and a calender box is provided and placed adjacent a surface of the king roll. A coating material is applied to the surface of the king roll utilizing the calender box. A base product is passed through the nip portion to apply the coating material to a surface of the base product to form the coating thereon.

Coated base products, apparatus and process for producing same

An improved, coated microwaveable paperboard or container useful for forming substantially rigid food containers such as plates, bowls, trays and the like and a process from producing the improved, coated paperboard is provided. The microwaveable paperboard and food containers, at a temperature in excess of 430.degree. F. evolves less than 0.1 milligrams of benzene per square inch, preferably less than 0.04 milligrams. Said paperboard and food containers are produced from a sized paperboard blank wherein a base coat and top coat comprise a mixture of an inorganic pigment and aliphatic copolymers. A base coat comprising an aliphatic latex and a pigment is applied directly to the paperboard, and a top coat comprising the same or different aliphatic polymer latex and a pigment is applied directly to the base coat to form the coated containers. Microwave susceptor layers are coated on the top coat. These containers are used to microwave and brown food at temperatures in excess of 430.degree. F. without evolving more than 0.1 milligrams of benzene per square inch of the container surface. The coated containers are also characterized by improved grease, oil, and cut resistance, improved varnish gloss, enhanced smoothness, and improved printing quality.
