A stretch wrapping machine includes a packaging material dispenser for dispensing packaging material and a segmented wrapping frame for supporting the packaging material dispenser. The frame includes segments of track which are assembled to one another to form a track for the packaging material dispenser so the packaging material dispenser can revolve around the load while rolling on coaxial wheel pairs. A motor drives the packaging dispenser around the load to wrap packaging material around the load.

Wrapping apparatus and method

A method and apparatus for dispensing a top sheet and stretch wrapping includes a dispenser for dispensing a sheet from a roll of sheet material and a trough for receiving, containing and collapsing the dispensed sheet. A circulating bar draws the dispensed sheet from the trough over the top of a load by moving from a starting position to a finishing position above and across the top of the load while another bar returns from the finishing position to the starting position to position the dispensed sheet proximate to a hot wire which severs the sheet from the roll from which it is dispensed. A suspended flexible strip rests on top of the load for holding the sheet in place on top of the load. The trough, circulating bars and depending flexible strip are mounted on a frame which is movable in the vertical direction. A film web dispenser dispenses a web from a roll or sheet material and stretches the web, and a turntable rotates the load relative to the film web dispenser for wrapping the film web on the load and around the edges of the dispensed top sheet.

Top sheet dispenser for a stretch wrapping apparatus

A wrapping apparatus having a rotating ring which carries a film dispenser carriage adapted to dispense film web around a load carried on a wrapping conveyor. A traveling film clamp mechanism is mounted adjacent the wrapping conveyor and extends through the plane of the rotating ring to engage, clamp, cut and brush film web dispensed from the film dispenser carriage. The traveling film clamp mechanism incorporates a linear driver assembly, a fixed clamp jaw mounted to the linear driver assembly and positioned substantially parallel to the line of travel in which the linear driver operates, a rotating jaw mounted to the linear driver assembly adapted to close against the fixed jaw to clamp film web therebetween, and a rotating cutter brush arm carrying a leading cutter edge and a trailing brush. After the web is clamped between the fixed and rotating jaws, the cutter edge of the brush arm severs the web extending between the jaws, and the brush carries the severed web portion against underlying film web layers previously wrapped around the load to create a commercially viable seal, while the jaws clamp the film web so that wrapping of the next load may be initiated.
