Low-ash lubricating compositions

This disclosure describes low ash lubricating composition achieving passing steel corrosion, passing high temperature deposit formation, and emulsion stability. The lubricating compositions include one or more select corrosion or rust inhibitor chemistries having an oil-soluble acyclic structure with acidic, hydroxy, or amine moieties but being free of imine, imide, and/or amidine moieties.

Low ash lubricating compositions for controlling steel corrosion

The present disclosure relates to passenger car motor oil lubricating oil compositions having select dispersant and detergent systems to improve at least one of deposits, sludge, oxidization, and wear when using a blend of API Group II base oils with one or more API Group III and/or API Group IV base oils. A lubricating oil composition comprising greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil of lubricating viscosity, and either: a) an additive composition comprising: one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphates (ZDDP compounds) and one or more dispersants, wherein the amount of zinc (Zn) in weight percent provided to the lubricating oil composition by the one or more ZDDP compounds multiplied by the contribution of the total base number (TBN) of the one or more dispersants to the TBN of the lubricating oil composition is a multiplication factor Zn*TBNDisp of at least about 0.06; or b) an additive composition comprising: one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphates (ZDDP compounds) and one or more dispersants, wherein the amount of phosphorus (P) in weight percent provided to the lubricating oil composition by the one or more ZDDP compounds multiplied by the contribution of the total base number (TBN) of the one or more dispersants to the TBN of the lubricating oil composition is a multiplication factor P*TBNDisp of at least about 0.051.

Lubricating oil composition having resistance to engine deposits

This disclosure describes blends of detergent and antiwear lubricating additives and lubricants including such additive blends effective to reduce high-temperature deposits, and in particular, high-temperature deposits in low ash compositions.

Lubricated surfaces, lubricant compositions for lubricating a surface, and methods for increasing antiwear properties in lubricants. The lubricated surface is provided by a lubricant composition including a base oil of lubricating viscosity, at least one metal salt of phosphorothioic acid, and an amount of at least one hydrocarbon soluble titanium compound effective to provide an increase in antiwear properties of the lubricant composition. A ratio of titanium metal to phosphorus in the antiwear agent ranges from about 0.3:1 to about 1.5:1.
