A multiband radio antenna device () for a radio communication terminal, comprising a flat ground substrate (), and in a plane parallel to said ground substrate a flat parasitic element () and a flat antenna element (). Said antenna element has a longitudinal member (), a first transverse member () extending from a first end portion of said longitudinal member, and a second transverse member () extending from a centre portion of said longitudinal member, wherein said parasitic element extends adjacent to an outer portion of and parallel to said second transverse member. A feeding point () is disposed at a center portion of said second transverse member. The parasitic element has a first ground connection () adjacent to said feeding point, a second ground connection () is disposed at an end portion of said second transverse member, and a third ground connection () is disposed at a center portion of said first transverse member.

Multiband radio antenna with a flat parasitic element

An antenna for use in a portable electronic communication apparatus has a pattern of a conductive material. The pattern of conductive material is printed on the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) (), comprising the RF circuitry of the portable electronic communication apparatus, to which antenna pattern is connected. The pattern comprises a first and second antenna arm, which together for a PIFA antenna and are resonating in a first and second frequency band, respectively. As an alternative, the antenna pattern forms a multi-port antenna having separate antenna arms for Rx and Tx, respectively.

Printed built-in antenna for use in a portable electronic communication apparatus

A mobile communications device has a multifrequency band antenna with a low band portion (LB) tuned to a low frequency band, and a first high band portion (HB) tuned to a first high frequency band at higher frequencies than the low frequency band. The low band portion (LB) and the first high band portion (HB) have a common first grounding point (GP), a common feeding point (FP) for feeding input signals to the antenna and for receiving signals from the antenna, and a first conductor portion (CP), which forms part of the low band portion (LB) and of the first high band portion (HB). The first conductor portion (CP) is electrically connected to the first grounding point (GP) and to the common feeding point (FP). A second high band portion (HB) is coupled to the first conductor portion (CP) and tuned to a second high frequency band at a higher frequency than the low frequency band and different from the first high frequency band. A switching network is connected between the second high band portion and ground, allowing the resonant frequency of the second high band portion to be varied, on the basis of a signal which depends on the operating mode of the device, thereby allowing four band operation.

Mobile communication device

According to exemplary embodiments of the present invention, retractable antennas are described for use in two or more frequency hyperbands. The retractable antennas can include a whip antenna, operable when the retractable antenna is extended and a non-uniform helical antenna, operable when the retractable antenna is retracted. For example, retractable antennas can be designed according to the present invention for usage in portable terminals capable of operating both at 800 MHz and at 1900 MHz. Tuning for the whip antenna is accomplished using a matching circuit. Tuning to both resonance frequencies for the non-uniform helical antenna can be accomplished by varying parameters of the helical structure including, for example, the pitch angle, coil diameter, length and number and spacing of the coil turns.
