An apparatus includes a frame component of a head-mounted device (HMD), an eyepiece, a battery, a processor, a heat pipe, and a hinge. The frame component includes a first compartment, a second compartment, and a channel connecting the first compartment and the second compartment. The heat pipe may extend from the first compartment to the second compartment through a channel and may be configured to transfer heat from the processor to the battery. A rate of heat transfer through the hinge may be greater than a threshold value when the hinge is in an open conformation that configures the frame component to be positioned along the side of the head. The heat transfer through the hinge may be smaller than the threshold value when the hinge is in a folded conformation that configures the frame component to be positioned for storage.

Heat transfer through frame component of head-mounted device

An apparatus includes a frame component of a head-mounted device (HMD) configured to secure the HMD to a head of a user. The frame component includes therein a first compartment, a second compartment, and a channel connecting the first compartment and the second compartment. The frame component is configured to be positioned along a side of the head with the channel passing over an ear of the head, the first compartment disposed on a first side of the ear, and the second compartment disposed on a second side of the ear. The apparatus also includes a battery disposed within the first compartment, a processor disposed within the second compartment, and a heat pipe extending from the first compartment to the second compartment through the channel. The heat pipe is configured to transfer heat from the processor to the battery.

Systems and devices are disclosed herein that provide or relate to modular accessory devices for a wearable device, such as a glasses-style head-mountable device (HMD). Illustrative systems may include a first frame component having an accessory slot accessible via an entry point on a transverse surface of the first frame component, a second frame component movably coupled to the first frame component, and one or more accessory devices that each have a slot-mating feature shaped for insertion into and removal from the accessory slot via the entry point. The second frame component may be movable between a first position in which the second frame component blocks access to the entry point, and a second position in which the second frame component allows access to the entry point.

Modular accessory systems for wearable devices

A pipe shaker apparatus is configured to shake within a pipe and cause the pipe to vibrate. The pipe shaker apparatus includes a rotor having an offset mass. The offset mass is offset from a longitudinal axis through a first end piece of the rotor at a first end of the rotor and a second end piece of the rotor at a second end of the rotor. The pipe shaker apparatus also includes a tubular body having first and second ends. First and second end caps are arranged at first and second ends of the tubular body such that air is able to pass through the first end cap, enter the tubular body, cause the rotor to rotate, and exit the tubular body through the second end cap. The rotor is arranged such that rotation of the rotor by the air cases the offset mass to shake the pipe shaker apparatus.

A flat-panel display stand in accordance with the present invention includes a modular assembly for supporting a display on a horizontal surface so that the display tilt can be adjusted by the user. The stand has a modular design with only two modules: a retainer clip and supporting leg that are uniquely hinged together and connected to the rear of the display.

A flexible docking bay is disclosed. The flexible docking bay comprises a body having a cartridge-receiving portion defining a front region that defines an opening and a rear region that defines a rear bounding wall. A cartridge-encasing wall extends from the opening to the rear bounding wall. The flexible docking bay comprises a sled-receiving feature configured to engage a cartridge. The sled-receiving feature is movably coupled with an interior surface of the cartridge-encasing wall. If the cartridge has physical attributes that when fully inserted into the receiving portion of the flexible docking bay is not fixed by a holding mechanism that secures the sled-receiving feature in a first position, then the cartridge and the sled-receiving feature travel past the holding mechanism to a second position. Otherwise, the cartridge and the sled-receiving feature are held in the first position.

A data storage cartridge includes a first housing and a second housing forming an inner chamber with an open front end and an open rear end. An information storage device is positioned within the chamber. A pair of intermediate strips are positioned lengthwise between the first housing and the second housing which hold together the first and second housing. A front end cap is positioned in the open front end to close the chamber. A rear end cap is positioned in the open rear end to close the chamber.

An expansion module usable as an internal and external device is described. The module defines an interior volume, a recess for receiving a retaining latch external to the module for retaining the module positioned with respect to an expansion module sleeve, and at least two throughholes to the module interior and an alignment receptacle at one end of the module. The module includes a latch release attached to the module for expelling a retained latch from the recess, and an interface device positioned in the module interior volume, and receiving a) a standard data connector via one of the at least two throughholes and b) a power connector via another of the at least two throughholes, and including one or more expansion device connectors internal to the module interior volume for providing at least one of data signals and power received from the standard data connector and the power connector to an expansion device.

An air-directing unit for use in redirecting air flow in a memory module environment of a computer. The air-directing unit comprises a body portion configured to redirect air flow therearound such that the air flow is redirected in the memory module environment. The air-directing unit includes a coupling element for removably engaging the air-directing unit with a connector portion of the memory module environment, the coupling element removably engaging the air-directing unit without compromising electrical contacts in the connector.

A computer system includes a chassis and a motherboard support system including a motherboard carrying at least one daughter card and slidably supported within the chassis. In one embodiment, the motherboard has a first connector and the system further includes a printed circuit board having a second connector, wherein the motherboard support system slides between a first position in which the connectors are connected and a second position in which the connectors are disconnected. In another embodiment, the system includes a component mounted to the chassis, wherein the motherboard support system is slidably supported within a plane between the component and the chassis. In one embodiment, an actuator is provided to slide the motherboard support system.
