A method for performing maintenance on a gas turbine engine assembly includes unplugging a first connector from a first socket, the first connector electrically coupled to the engine control unit, the first socket electrically coupled to the hydromechanical unit, plugging a second connector into the first socket, the second connector electrically coupled to a driver simulator, cranking the engine core to a low speed value, and operating the driver simulator to reposition at least one of the variable stator vane assembly and the variable bypass valve from a first operational position to a second operational position that is different than the first operational position.

Method and apparatus for performing gas turbine engine maintenance

An automatic engine protection system for use when electronic parts of the control system are exposed to overtemperature conditions. A thermally sensitive component, such as an engine electronic control or an electronic overspeed control, is mounted on the engine. A thermal fuse is mounted adjacent, or in thermal contact with, the speed control. The thermal fuse is placed in electrical series with a valve which controls fuel delivery to the engine. If the temperature of the fuse exceeds its melting point, indicating a possible danger to the electronic control, the fuse melts, thereby terminating fuel to the engine.

Automatic engine protection system for use when electronic parts of a control system are exposed to overtemperature conditions

Systems and methods for detecting faults in RVDTs and LVDTs are described. In an exemplary embodiment, a sum of secondary voltages V1 and V2 from a transducer is obtained by adding the secondary voltages together, i.e.; V1+V2. This sum of secondary voltages theoretically should be constant for all LVDT/RVDT positions, since the total length of the secondary transformer is constant. An electrical fault in the primary or secondary windings generates a corresponding change in the sum of secondary voltages. By comparing this shifted value to a reference value which is representative of a no-fault condition, an error value is created which indicates the magnitude of the shift in the sum of the secondary values. Depending upon the magnitude of the error value, certain actions are taken.

Detection of faults in linear and rotary voltage transducers

A method for detecting fault in a resolver generating a sine voltage and a cosine voltage. The method includes obtaining a sum of a square of the sine voltage and a square of the cosine voltage. The sum is filtered through a first filter having a first time constant to generate a first filter output. The sum is also filtered through a second filter having a second time constant to generate a second filter output. The first filter output and second filter output are compared to detect a fault in the resolver.
