A robotic surgical instrument comprising: a shaft; driving elements running through the shaft; an articulation at a distal end of the shaft for articulating an end effector, the articulation driveable by the driving elements; and an instrument interface at a proximal end of the shaft for driving the driving elements, the instrument interface comprising: a monocoque chassis; and a routing pulley component housed by the monocoque chassis and separable from the monocoque chassis; wherein the instrument interface is configured to be assembled by: routing the driving elements from the shaft around pulleys of the routing pulley component; securing the driving elements to the monocoque chassis; and after the routing and securing steps, placing the routing pulley component into the monocoque chassis.

A medical device for infusing medical substances has activation buttons accessible on an exterior of a device housing. The activation buttons and corresponding electrical switches within the device housing are configured to prevent inadvertent activation of the activation buttons and therefore inadvertent operation of the corresponding electrical switches to initiate a process such as the infusion of medical substance(s) to a user. The medical device employs overlap of respective time traces initiated by activation of the activation buttons to determine whether the activation is intended and valid. These respective time traces do not have to be initiated simultaneously or in any particular sequence. The activation buttons can be elastomeric overmolded buttons set within cutouts in the device housing, and, when depressed, make physical contact with the corresponding electrical switches.

A micropump according to the invention uses axially oriented pistons to define a pump volume. Translating the pistons axially with respect to each other within a pump housing draws a metered amount of fluid into the pump volume from a reservoir port for delivery to a cannula port when the space is collapsed. Radially situated seals on the pistons cooperate with the axial movement to close off and open the cannula port and the reservoir port respectively at different positions of the piston stroke.
