A rotary spring-return actuator operator is provided with a multi-slot shaft and a clock type spring retained by a retaining band which encircles the spring in such a manner as to insure that the potential energy within the spring is safely contained during all operations requiring disassembly of the actuator assembly, and wherein the retaining band facilitates the in-field reversal of the spring direction or the adjustment of the spring preload by securing the spring to one or more of the slots on the multi-slot shaft.

A dispensing device comprises a body having a chamber sized to accommodate a volume of solid halogen source therein. The chamber comprises an open end and a closed end. A number of apertures extend through the body and into the chamber near the closed end. A control member comprises an open end and a closed end separated by a wall. The open end of the control member is rotatably mounted over the closed end of the chamber. Openings extend through the wall and are positioned at locations that correspond to the apertures so that alignment of the openings with respective apertures form dispensement ports. The ports has a degree of closure that can be precisely controlled by rotation of the control member about the body for dispensing the halogen solution to the water. A cap is releasably attached to the open end of the chamber to form an air and water-tight seal therebetween, creating an air head within the body when placed into the water. The air head controls the amount of solid halogen source wetted to that portion adjacent the apertures. Water is circulated through the apertures to wet the solid source and generate halogen solution. Controlled solid source wetting and variable adjustment of the dispensement ports permits halogen solution to be dispensed to the water in a precisely controlled manner.

A filter unit capable of receiving a cartridge-type filter element is provided for use in-line with a suction-type pool cleaning device. The unit has an elongated housing with intake and outlet ports at opposite ends. The intake port may be connected via a hose to a pool cleaning device and the outlet port to a suction port in the pool circulation system. The unit can use a filter cartridge with an element that offers a filtration coarseness somewhere between that of the system filter and a strainer element. The housing may be adapted to receive a strainer basket in place of the filter cartridge and thus serve as a conventional leaf-trap.

There is provided a flowmeter comprising a vertically extending inlet chamber having an inlet opening at its lower end, a vertically extending outlet chamber horizontally spaced-apart from the inlet chamber and having an outlet opening at its lower end, a communicating passage between the inlet and outlet chambers along the vertical length of the inlet chamber and a ball disposed in the inlet chamber and afforded slidable vertical movement therein. The flowmeter further comprises coaxially aligned inlet and outlet couplings for connecting the flowmeter to a horizontal fluid line.

Vacuum head for cleaning underwater surfaces

In chlorinating a swimming pool equipped with a periodically operating pump arranged to circulate water from the pool through a filter assembly and back to the pool, chlorination of the pool water is accomplished by the use of a solid chlorinating material. The chlorinating material is introduced into an openable airtight chamber which has a water inlet to and a water outlet from the chamber at the bottom thereof. To prepare the chamber for insertion of chlorinating material, a valve in a duct to the water inlet is closed and a check valve associated with the outlet prevents backflow of water into the chamber so that before opening the chamber air previously contained in the chamber from a prior loading of chlorinating material expands in the chamber to express water from the chamber through the outlet, thereby providing an essentially dry chamber. The chamber is then opened and additional chlorinating material is placed therein. The chamber is then first closed and the valve to the inlet is opened. Operation of the pump motor introduces water under pressure into the chamber to compress air therein and to cause water to flow over the chlorinating material.

A chlorinator is used in a swimming pool system having a filter assembly and a pump for circulating water from the pool through the filter assembly and back to the pool. The chlorinator comprises a housing which defines therein a selectively-openable airtight chamber adapted for receiving therein a quantity of water-soluble dry chlorine material. A water inlet port opens to the chamber essentially at the bottom end thereof, and a separate water outlet port opens from the chamber also essentially at the bottom of the chamber. The inlet port is adapted for connection thereto of an adjustably valved duct by which water to be chlorinated can be applied to the inlet port. A check valve is coupled to the outlet port to prevent water flow through the outlet port to the chamber. The chlorinator is connectible in a pool system in parallel to the filter assembly, for example.
