A network analysis capability is provided herein. A network analysis capability supports proactive detection of service troubles in a network by looking at the network from the perspective of the end users. A proactive detection mechanism is provided by having end user devices (e.g., smartphones, computers, and the like) run background applications which monitor for service-impacting problems and autonomously report service-impacting problems when such problems are detected. A background application, before and/or after problems are detected, collects diagnostic information and forwards the diagnostic information to a network for analysis. A network node compiles and analyzes data collected from the end user devices, data collected from one or more network-based data collectors, and, optionally, information from one or more network support systems, to diagnose problems and dynamically respond, potentially before service is impacted.

Method and apparatus for network analysis

One embodiment of the disclosures made herein is a method for managing traffic flows through a Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexor (DSLAM). In accordance with such embodiment, the method includes performing an operation for analyzing a traffic flow arriving at a DSLAM, wherein a type of the traffic flow is identified. Analyzing the traffic flow is performed on at least one of layer 4, layer 5, layer 6 and layer 7 of an Open Systems Interconnection model. After analyzing the traffic flow, an operation is performed for associating a traffic flow identifier with the traffic flow. The traffic flow identifier corresponds to the type of the traffic flow. After associating the traffic flow identifier with the traffic flow, an operation is performed for facilitating identifier-designated processing of the traffic flow. Facilitating identifier-designated processing is performed at least partially dependent upon at least one of the type of the traffic flow, an intended recipient of the traffic flow and an originator of the traffic flow.

Facilitating DSLAM-hosted traffic management functionality

Apparatus, and an associated method, for redirecting telephonic calls. Calls are directed to a user based upon the user's presence on a packet network. An indexer indexes together a forwarded call location together with dialing digits associated with a called location. When a calling party subsequently places a call to the called location, selected redirection of the call is effectuated pursuant to redirection procedures. A telephonic switch, through which the call placed by the calling party is routed, accesses the index formed by the indexer, located, for example, at a service control point. Responsive to the values contained in the index, the call is routed, to be delivered to the called party. In a work-from-home scenario, a TDM call placed to a worker's work location is redirected to a secondary location with the only effort required by the worker being his log on to the worker's corporate network.

Apparatus, and an associated method, for selectably and automatically redirecting a telephonic call to a secondary location

An advanced intelligent network (AIN) comprises a services control point providing fully integrated service logic for both narrowband and broadband communications. When a terminating trigger of a switch on the phone number of the line serving a customer detects an incoming telephone call, the switch sends a query to the services control point with the calling number of the incoming call. The services control point issues a send data transaction with the retrieved calling party information to the customer's set-top box. The calling party information is then displayed on the customer's video display, and the customer sends an instruction for re-directing the call through the set-top box to the ISCP.

Method of altering the destination telephone number of an incoming call

An advanced intelligent network (AIN) comprises an services control point providing fully integrated service logic for both narrowband and broadband communications. When a terminating trigger event of a switch on the phone number of the line serving a customer detects an incoming telephone call, the switch sends a query to the services control point with the calling number of the incoming call. The services control point retrieves calling party information corresponding to the calling number directly from a line identification database and issues a send data transaction with the retrieved calling party information to the customer's set-top box. The calling party information is then displayed on the customer's video display.

Method for delivering call related information to a video display

An advanced intelligent network (AIN) comprises a services control point providing fully integrated service logic for both narrowband and broadband communications. In the network, a narrowband switch queries the services control point in response to a telephone call and the services control point interacts with a subscriber via the subscriber's broadband set-top terminal device through an exchange of one or more signaling messages prior to instructing the narrowband switch as to how to complete the call. For example, the signalling messages may include a query from the services control point for data indicating whether the subscriber's broadband set-top terminal device is in use or is turned off. The signaling messages from the services control point may carry information for display. If provided, response messages may carry user input information.

AIN narrowband to video signalling

A communications network system having an advanced intelligent network (AIN) controlling the system provides narrowband and broadband communications to customer premises. The system includes a narrowband network for narrowband communications including at least one signal switching office and a signal system. The signal switching office routes narrowband calls and detects an outgoing narrowband call from a customer at a customer premises and also detects dialed digits corresponding to such outgoing narrowband call. A broadband network for broadband communications is connected to video equipment at the customer premises. The video equipment includes a video display and is connected to the broadband network via an addressable settop box. A services control point in the advanced intelligent network is operative to perform network service logic programs for routing narrowband communications in the narrowband network. At least one of the network service logic programs is responsive to a query from the at least one signal switching office resulting from detecting the outgoing narrowband call and also detecting the dialed digits corresponding to that call. The service logic program instructs the services control point to initiate a data transaction to send data to the broadband network. The data includes the dialed digits. The dialed digits are displayed on the video equipment and request a response from the customer. The customer responds and instructs the narrowband switch as to whether or not to complete the outgoing call.
