A method of forming a metallic coating a workpiece is disclosed herein. The method includes receiving a sacrificial deposition rod formed of a first material, receiving a workpiece of a second material, forming a coating of the first material from the sacrificial deposition rod onto the workpiece, the coating having a first thickness, and machining the coating to a second thickness that is less than the first thickness.

Corrosion protection using metallic coating

An example article according to the present disclosure includes, among other possible things, a metallic substrate, and a bond coat on the metallic substrate. The bond coat includes a matrix phase, gettering particles in the matrix phase, wherein the gettering particles are reactive with oxidants, and a dispersion of matrix modifier particles in the matrix phase. The example article also includes a diffusion barrier between the bond coat and the metallic substrate, wherein the diffusion barrier is configured to inhibit diffusion of components from the bond coat into the metallic substrate. An example composite material and method of applying a barrier to a substrate are also disclosed.

Environmental barrier coating

A nanocomposite optical ceramic (NCOC) material includes a plurality of coated (core-shell) nanoparticles having nanoparticles of a first material coated with a coating of a second material. The first material and the second material are mutually insoluble and each have a transmissivity of at least 80% for an intended wavelength. The first material and the second material have a difference in index of refraction of less than 25%. The first material and second material have grins with a diameter of less than 1/20the intended wavelength. The coating of the second material on the nanoparticles of the first material is up to 50 nm thick. The NCOC contains no more than 0.01% voids per unit volume.

Coated (core-shell) nanoparticles for nanocomposite optical ceramics

A nanocomposite optical ceramic (NCOC) material. The material having a first solid phase, a second solid phase, and a third solid phase. The first solid phase has first solid phase grains no larger than 5 μm, and each first solid phase grain has a first solid phase grain boundary. The second solid phase has second solid phase grains no larger than 5 μm, and each second solid phase grain has a second solid phase grain boundary. The third solid phase has a doping agent. The doping agent is less than 5 atomic % soluble in the first solid phase and the second solid phase. At least part of the third solid phase is situated at the second solid phase grain boundary.

A swing bed absorption apparatus including a first absorption bed including a first plurality of solid amine based sorbent beads, a second absorption bed including a second plurality of solid amine based sorbent beads, and a solvent pump configured to alternately pump a liquid solvent through the first absorption bed and the second absorption bed. The liquid solvent is configured to alternately desorb the carbon dioxide from the first plurality of solid amine based sorbent beads and the second plurality of solid amine based sorbent beads.

A contactor configured for use in a dehumidification system is provided including a plurality of contact modules. An electronic scoring process which comprises assigning a smart card to a player, and opening an electronic record for that smart card at least one a master facility. The master facility is adapted to receive, store, calculate and report play related data. At the initiation of a round of play, a player presents the smart card to a site specific smart card imprinter. At that time the status of the smart card is determined, and it is imprinted with current site specific information. The smart card is again presented to and read by a mobile score keeping unit. As play progresses, data is fed into the mobile unit on a real time basis, and an electronic recording of play related data is generated by the mobile unit. At the conclusion of play the electronic recording is imprinted onto the smart card. The smart card is read by a card reader and the electronic recording is transmitted to one or more master facilities where it is added to the electronic record for that smart card at that facility. Periodically a report is compiled from the electronic record, and provided to the player.

Electronic scoring process

A device for insuring that the striking surface of a sports implement is properly oriented prior to the initiation and completion of a contact swing. Two position orientation sensors are affixed to the shaft of the sports implement. One sensor senses the roll position of the striking surface, and the second sensor senses the pitch position of the striking surface. When both of these sensors indicate that the striking surface is properly oriented, an audible signal is generated. This signal is maintained for as long as the striking surface is properly oriented.
