An apparatus in a radial reactor is described. The apparatus comprises a vertically elongated conduit extending around a circumference of an outer wall of the radial reactor, a vertically oriented cylindrical center pipe in the radial reactor, and a catalyst bed. The conduit comprises an inner face and an outer face and a pair of opposing sides. The inner face has a plurality of slots. The pair of opposing sides have a plurality of slots. There is a riser at a top of the vertically elongated conduit. The catalyst bed is defined by the center pipe and the inner face.

A hydrocarbon conversion process is described. The process includes passing a hydrocarbon stream through a plurality of reaction zones and a plurality of fired heaters, the effluent from a first reaction zone passing through one of the plurality of fired heaters before entering a second reaction zone. The plurality of fired heaters include a radiant section, an inlet manifold, an outlet manifold, at least one heater tube having an inlet and an outlet, the inlet being in fluid communication with the inlet manifold and the outlet being in fluid communication with the outlet manifold, and at least one burner, the inlet manifold of one of the plurality of fired heaters being at a vertical height different from a vertical height of at least one of the other inlet manifolds or at least one of the outlet manifolds.

Embodiments of methods and apparatuses for hydrotreating hydrocarbons are provided. An exemplary method includes hydrotreating a hydrocarbon feed comprising heating a hydrotreating zone effluent to produce a heated hydrotreating zone effluent. An indirect heat exchange takes place between the heated hydrotreating zone effluent and hydrocarbon feed to provide a heated hydrocarbon feed.

One exemplary embodiment can be a process for transferring heat to a first stream from a second stream in a hydrocarbon process. The process can include passing the first stream through at least one generally vertically-orientated tube in an exchanger. An interior surface of the at least one generally vertically-orientated tube may form one or more curved irregularities where the first stream, prior to entering the at least one generally vertically-orientated tube, may include a mixture of a gas including hydrogen and at least one or more C1-C3 hydrocarbons, and a liquid including one or more C4-C13 hydrocarbons.

Embodiments of apparatuses and methods for reforming of hydrocarbons including recovery of products are provided. In one example, a method comprises separating a reforming-zone effluent into a H, Chydrocarbon-containing gas phase and a Chydrocarbon-containing liquid phase. The H, (C-C) hydrocarbon-containing gas phase is partially condensed and separated to form a H, Chydrocarbon-containing net gas stream and a Chydrocarbon-containing liquid stream. The Chydrocarbon-containing liquid phase, the Chydrocarbon-containing liquid stream, and at least a portion of the H, Chydrocarbon-containing net gas stream are introduced to a re-contacting recovery zone for forming a H-rich stream, a C/Chydrocarbon-rich LPG stream, and a Chydrocarbon-rich reformate stream.

Methods and apparatuses for reforming of hydrocarbons including recovery of products

One exemplary embodiment of the present invention can be a fired heater for a hydrocarbon conversion process. The fired heater includes inlet and outlet headers or manifolds, a set of heater tubes with each heater tube having an inlet and an outlet, at least one restriction orifice adjacent the inlet of at least one heater tube. The restriction orifice may be within the inlet manifold and adjacent the inlet of a heater tube, or between the inlet manifold and the inlet to the heater tube. A process may include passing a hydrocarbon stream through the fired heater described herein during the course of operating a hydrocarbon conversion process.

Disclosed are heaters having at least one adjustable fired burner and an adjustable fired burner for use with various types of heaters. The heaters may be part of an industrial processes such as petroleum refining. The adjustable burners are configured to be adjusted and positioned in any direction and then be locked into place. The adjustable burners may be adjusted automatically or manually. The ability to quickly adjust the position of an adjustable burner results in substantially less or virtually no damage to elements in the heater and provides for a more even distribution of heat within the heater.

The process may include passing a hydrocarbon stream through at least one heater including at least one burner, a radiant section, and a convection section. One exemplary embodiment can include a hydrocarbon conversion process. Generally, the process includes passing a hydrocarbon stream through a hydrocarbon conversion zone comprising a series of reaction zones. Typically, the hydrocarbon conversion zone includes a staggered-bypass reaction system having a first, second, third, and fourth reaction zones, which are staggered-bypass reaction zones, and a fifth reaction zone, which can be a non-staggered-bypass reaction zone, subsequent to the staggered-bypass reaction system.

This invention is a reforming process that employs at least two moving bed reaction zones. One of the reaction zones, called the lead reaction zone, passes catalyst particles and a hydrocarbon-containing effluent to the other reaction zone, which operates at an inlet temperature that is at least 60.degree. F. (33.degree. C.) hotter than the lead reaction zone. In a preferred embodiment, this invention employs no heating between the combined feed exchanger and the lead reaction zone. This invention is particularly applicable to reforming processes that employ continuous regeneration sections.

A multistage catalytic hydrocarbon conversion system is disclosed in which hydrocarbons flow serially through at least two reaction zones and through which catalyst particles move. Where three reaction zones are used, the effluent stream from the first reaction zone is split between the second and third reaction zones. One portion of the effluent stream is combined with hydrocarbons that bypassed the first reaction zone, and the combined stream is passed to the second reaction zone. The other portion of the first reaction zone effluent stream and at least a portion of the effluent stream of the second reaction zone are passed to the third reaction zone. This invention is applicable to processes where the first and second reaction zones are susceptible to pinning in that this invention decreases the mass flow through the first and second reaction zones while nevertheless maintaining high hydrocarbon conversion.

A fluid solid-contacting device eliminates the accumulation of deposits behind distribution collection conduits, reduces the differential expansion between the conduits and a containment vessel, and improves fluid distribution by extending the perforations into a back side of a distribution conduit that abuts the vessel. This apparatus has greatest application to scallop-shaped conduits that are commonly used in radial flow reactors. The perforations, extended into the back side of the scallop, ventilate the area between the scallop and the vessel holding the scallops.
