The present invention relates particularly to photovoltaic roofing systems in which photovoltaic elements are integrated on a roof deck with conventional roofing materials. In one aspect, a photovoltaic roofing system includes a two-part tee element disposed on a roof deck, the two-part tee element comprising a base piece including a central portion; two opposed horizontally-extending first and second flanges extending from the central portion, and a top piece attachment feature formed in the central portion, and a top piece including a base piece attachment feature mated with the top piece attachment feature of the base piece; and a vertically extending portion extending from the base piece attachment feature. A first photovoltaic element can be disposed on the roof adjacent the base piece with its edge disposed on the horizontally-extending first flange of the base piece of the two-part tee element.

The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for cooling material during continuous vacuum forming. The apparatus includes one or more cooling regions positioned adjacent one or more vacuum regions. A rotatable support belt including perforations therein supports a flexible patterned belt. The flexible patterned belt includes apertures spaced along the length and width thereof. The one or more cooling regions provide a cooling fluid to be drawn through the apertures in the flexible patterned belt to form an area of cooling fluid on the flexible patterned belt which contacts a bottom surface of a hot material received on the flexible patterned belt in order to cool the bottom surface of the material and the flexible patterned belt. The vacuum regions are in fluid flow communication with the perforations of the support belt and the apertures of the flexible patterned belt for drawing the material onto the flexible patterned belt. The vacuum regions remove the cooling fluid from the flexible patterned belt. Cooling can also be provided by a cooling region positioned above the material for simultaneously cooling an upper surface of the material.

Apparatus and method for cooling material during continuous vacuum forming

This invention relates to methods and apparatus for manufacturing shaped polymeric articles by substantially continuous vacuum forming. The method includes providing a sheet of hot polymeric material which is disposed onto a rotating belt having a mold impression. Vacuum pressure is applied to the polymeric material through the belt so as to draw the hot polymeric material into intimate contact with the mold impression to form a patterned sheet portion and a remaining sheet portion. This method thereafter cools at least the patterned sheet portion below a heat deflection temperature of the polymeric material, forms the remaining sheet portion, and then cools the remaining sheet portion below the heat deflection temperature so that features other than the central pattern, such as nail and butt edges, can be mechanically worked into the polymeric sheet.

Apparatus for continuous forming shaped polymeric articles

Siding panels and intermediate articles of their manufacture are provided. The siding panels include a central portion including an aesthetic pattern and a pair of lateral edge portions which are molded while the polymeric material is still hot or molten. One exemplary aesthetic pattern provided is a cedar shake siding pattern. Adjacent cedar shake shingle impressions have substantially the same lengths, but a plurality of bottom edges of the individual shingle impressions are beveled to give the appearance of shingles having different lengths.

The present invention relates to a system and method for printing an extruded sheet in which ink is applied over the extruded sheet. The extruded sheet is at an elevated temperature. The ink cures immediately upon contact with the extruded sheet having an elevated temperature. In one embodiment, at least one print roller applies a background color to the sheet and a plurality of print rollers apply one or more additional colors for forming a pattern or image on the sheet. For example, the pattern or image can have a wood grain appearance. The extruded sheet can be sized for use as a vinyl siding product.

System and method for printing an extruded sheet

A method of manufacturing a shaped polymeric article is provided. A sheet of extruded hot polymeric material is provided and disposed onto a rotating belt. The rotating belt includes a mold impression therein and a plurality of apertures therethrough. The mold impression resembles a plurality of adjacent shingle impressions of substantially the same length. Each of the shingle impressions includes a bottom edge where at least one of the bottom edges is beveled to give the appearance of shingles having different lengths. Vacuum pressure is applied to the hot polymeric material through the belt, so as to draw the sheet into intimate forming contact with the mold impression to form a patterned central portion. The patterned central portion is cooled below the heat deflection temperature of the polymeric material. A length of the sheet is severed to produce a shaped polymeric article.

The present invention relates to an apparatus for continuous vacuum forming of a thermoplastic material between a pair of rotating flexible belts in which one belt includes a plurality of teeth, which are received in a plurality of indentations of the other belt. Each of the belts includes a mold, which forms a channel when the belts are adjacent to one another. A vacuum is applied to at least one of the flexible belts for drawing material received in the channel and alignment of the belts. Preferably, a vacuum can be applied to both of the belts for improved alignment. Each belt can include a plurality of apertures, which are in fluid flow communication with a plurality of perforations of a flat support belt positioned over a vacuum manifold.

An apparatus for continuous vacuum forming a material having a flexible patterned belt continuously rotatable with a flat support belt over a vacuum manifold. The flexible patterned belt includes apertures therein and the support belt includes perforations therein for drawing air therethrough. The material is drawn onto the flexible patterned belt for vacuum forming the material. The flat support belt provides improved stability of the flexible patterned belt and improved vacuum characteristics between the belts

Apparatus for continuous vacuum forming

An apparatus for continuous vacuum forming of a hot plasticized material such as vinyl onto a moving flat forming surface defined between a first and second roller member which are continuously rotatable with a flexibly resilient belt and a woven flexible support belt extending therearound. The upper belt is of a flexibly rubber material and the lower belt is of an open woven metallic material to allow air to be drawn therethrough. These belts pass through a flat forming station positioned between two rollers against which vacuum forming is performed. A flexibly resilient pattern form is defined on the flexibly resilient belt including a plurality of vacuum apertures therein such that as the pattern form passes through the flat forming station a vacuum is applied through the woven support belt and to the apertures defined in the form to draw down the hot plasticized material onto the pattern form for continuous vacuum forming. The flexibility of the belts facilitates the vacuum forming operation and provides a flat surface against which the vacuum forming can be performed.

An apparatus and method is provided for forming a textured pattern on a heated substrate. An extruder forms the heated substrate. A textured pattern is applied to a transfer sheet by rotary screening. Thereafter, contact is made between the textured pattern and the substrate for adhering the textured pattern to the substrate. Since the textured pattern has a greater affinity for the substrate than for the transfer sheet, the transfer sheet can be removed from the textured pattern adhered to the substrate. In a preferred application, the textured pattern formed on the substrate can be used as a vertical, horizontal or venetian blind.
