A process for the production of a gasoline having a low benzene content. A catalytic reformate and a stripped liquid produced in the gas concentration unit of an FCC unit are fractionated in a dehexanizer to concentrate the benzene and C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 olefins these two streams contain into a single stream. This stream is passed into an alkylation zone wherein at least some of the benzene is alkylated with the olefins. The alkylation zone effluent is stripped and recombined with C.sub.7 -plus dehexanizer bottoms stream to form a gasoline product stream.

Low benzene content gasoline producing process

Benzene, which is toxic and carcinogenic, is removed from a gasoline or gasoline precursor stream, such as a mixture of a reformate and a naphtha produced in a fluidized catalytic cracking unit, in a process which includes fractionating the precursor stream into a light hydrocarbon stream containing the benzene and a heavy hydrocarbon stream. The light hydrocarbon stream is then admixed with an olefinic hydrocarbon, passed through an alkylation zone and then remixed with the heavy hydrocarbon stream.

Process to reduce the benzene content of gasoline

A sieve-type fractionation tray which has been adjusted for operation at a reduced vapor flow rate. Adjustment is achieved by placing an imperforate plate across the vapor passageways in a manner which selectively seals the passageways located nearest the outlet downcomer. Also a sieve-type fractionation tray having vapor passageways only on the liquid receiving lateral half of the tray.

Sieve-type fractionation trays

A process for the dehydrogenation of alkylaromatic hydrocarbons, such as ethylbenzene, in which a water stream formed by condensing and separating the effluent of the reaction zone is treated for the removal of alkenylaromatic hydrocarbons by passage through a liquid-liquid extraction zone, and the alkenylaromatic hydrocarbons are then recovered by admixing the extract stream with the effluent as part of the cooling performed before the effluent is passed into a liquid phase separation zone.

Ethylbenzene Dehydrogenation process

Styrene is removed from a recycle water stream of an ethylbenzene dehydrogenation process by liquid-liquid extraction to prevent polymer buildup on heat exchange tubes and to lower coke formation in boiler tubes. The water stream is then fed into a heater to form steam for use within the reaction zone of the process. The solvent used for the extraction is benzene or a normal paraffin and preferably is the overhead product of a benzene-toluene column which separates the products of the process. The use of extraction lowers utility costs compared to stripping the recycle water stream.

Alkylaromatic hydrocarbon dehydrogenation process

Ethylbenzene is produced by the alkylation of benzene and subsequently catalytically dehydrogenated to produce styrene in a process wherein a benzene sidecut stream removed from the fractionation zone separating the newly produced ethylbenzene is water washed to remove a boron-containing complex. The washed sidecut stream is then utilized as the solvent stream fed to a liquid-liquid extraction zone which treats a water stream formed by condensing the effluent of a dehydrogenation zone. The treated water stream is used to generate steam and the extract stream removed from the extraction zone is combined with the effluent of the dehydrogenation zone to cool and dilute the effluent and to recover styrene and ethylbenzene.

Process for production and dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene

Nickel values are recovered from ammoniacal solutions in a continuous solvent extraction process utilizing a plurality of elongated columns containing a multiplicity of spaced-apart, perforated trays, or decks. The organic solvent constitutes an oxime and at least one species of hydrocarbon diluent having from three to seven carbon atoms per molecule. Elevated pressures in the range of about 100 to 1,000 psig. (7.03 to 70.3 kg/sq.cm.) are utilized.

Pressurized column solvent extraction of nickel from ammoniacal solutions

Maximum removal of asphaltic material, including high molecular weight metallic contaminants, from a hydrocarbonaceous charge stock is achieved through the utilization of a solvent extraction zone provided with direct heating facilities in an upper portion thereof. A portion of the solvent-rich hydrocarbon phase is withdrawn from the extraction zone, increased in temperature and introduced into an asphalt settling zone. The separated solvent/hydrocarbon stream, substantially asphalt-free, is reintroduced into the extraction zone at the higher temperature.
