The combination of an endless power transmission belt construction and a pulley therefor, the belt construction and methods of making the same are provided, the belt construction having opposed inner and outer surfaces with one surface defining a plurality of longitudinally disposed and alternately spaced apart like projections and grooves that are adapted to mesh with a ribbed surface of one pulley, and a planar surface adapted to operate on a planar surface of another pulley, wherein the planar surface of the belt construction comprises a polymeric material. The polymeric material of the planar surface provides a greater tractive force on the planar surface of the pulley. The planar surface further provides means to prevent abrasive particles accumulating thereon, thereby reducing wear upon the planar surface of the pulley.

A belt pulley and method of making the same are provided, the pulley having a hub and a peripheral groove for receiving part of an endless belt therein that is to drive the pulley or be driven thereby whereby the pulley is adapted to be rotated about a longitudinal axis of the hub. The pulley has a pair of opposed facing sides defining at least part of the groove therebetween and has a pair of oppositely facing outboard sides, the sides each having an inner peripheral portion and an outer peripheral portion. The pulley has a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart and radially disposed substantially straight vanes extending outwardly from at least one of the outboard sides thereof. Each vane has an inner peripheral end and an outer peripheral end respectively disposed adjacent the inner peripheral portion and the outer peripheral portion of its respective outboard side and has an outer edge that is disposed substantially transverse to the longitudinal axis of the hub from substantially the inner peripheral end thereof to the outer peripheral end thereof and is spaced outwardly from the respective outboard side from substantially the inner peripheral end thereof to the outer peripheral end thereof whereby the vanes are adapted to act on fluid adjacent to pulley to tend to cool the pulley with the fluid.

A traction device which is adapted to be mounted on a tire is provided which comprises at least one ribbed strap. The strap is mounted with the ribs facing outwardly, and provides greater traction in snow.

Traction assembly

An apparatus and method is provided for making endless multiple rib power transmission belts each comprising one or more pulley engaging sections by separating these belts from belt bodies having a greater number of pulley engaging sections. The apparatus comprises support means, a belt holding and rotating assembly mounted on the support means and a cutting assembly mounted on the support means.

An improved ring molding apparatus for molding toothed V-belts is provided which comprises, in one embodiment, a ring mold having an outer circumferential surface which is grooved to provide a mating surface for a bladder having an inner surface having a plurality of tooth-forming projections and recesses. According to another embodiment, the bladder has a plurality of axially-running projections and recesses arranged in an annulus for each of the mold cavities. Also provided is a method for making molded V-belts which comprises curing the belt in the above molds.

Method and apparatus for making wrapped, molded, toothed belts

A method of producing endless power transmission belts having a plurality of longitudinal ribs by the steps of forming an annular belt sleeve, positioning the sleeve on a continuous curing apparatus, forming longitudinal ribs in the compression section, and curing the formed belt. An additional step of stabilizing the cured belt is provided when the belt has a load-carrying cord of polyester.

Method of making banded belts

A power transmission belt structure and method of making same are provided wherein such belt structure has substantially its entire periphery covered by an outer fabric layer adjoined by an elastomeric layer with at least a portion of the elastomeric layer and the fabric layer being the only structure defining a tension section of the belt structure.
